Technically Yellow Labradors and Golden Retrievers - a cross between the two is sometimes called a Golden Labrador - but that is not a recognised colour of pure bred labs - according to the Kennel Club anyway! Calling a Yellow Lab Golden is not wise in a room of Lab purists - it'll get you strung up! But at the end of the day - golden or yellow - we all know what we are talking about right?0

mizmir - yeah we all know which poochy they were referring too. :TTime to find me again0

You really need to decide if its what you want, because it sounds as if you have your hands full already, house, children etc and from my experience of children and pets it will be you walking, training and poop scooping. A dog will be a novelty to your son in the first week or so but will eventually add to your daily chores. Dont let me put you off if this is really what you want as dogs can be a wonderful addition to a family but cats are much independent and need less attention.2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

That was what i was thinking with my other post. It was a case with us of we all wanted a dog, but guess whos left training, poop scooping, feeding, vet trips, walking, cuddling, playing with, disciplining etc etc - because it sure as hell aint my son or boyfriend! and you would be surprised how much time they do need especially if they have little training in the first place or a mental issue of some sort like ours.
and then boyfriend has the nerve to complain the dog doesnt listen to him!
I dont care I now have two mummies boys for plenty of cuddles : )Time to find me again0 -
Thanks for all the replies and advice, plenty to think about. I am at home all day and would really appreciate the company of a dog and getting away from the household chores to walk a dog. I was brought up with dogs and was the dog walker then. I would never just go for a walk on my own as I feel like billy-no-mates but give me a dog or pram and I am happy to walk for miles!! As for my daughter although she is autistic she doesn't have temper tamtrums like some autistic children her behaviour is just strange. She likes her own company and talking at you! She understands that we have to care and be kind to dogs and take them for walks. Although timid around dogs I would say it is more due to the fact that we have told her not to approach dogs when she has been out with us because we wouldn't know how they would react so very much a learnt reation. Our son will help care fro the dog but I do realise that we will all have to care for the dog. To be honest I am probably more excited then my son as I have always wanted a dog because I feel that they are such great companions and no matter how we feel they are always so pleased to see you.0

When you were first getting your pup, I wondered what influenced your decision as to get a dog or a girl?
Can someone please tell me what it's like having a girl dog, as I've only had boys before?
Are there lots more problems with girlie dogs, being that they come into season twice a year and bleed etc?
Thanks,
Sally

Hi
Ive never had a girl do geithe rso i cant offer any suggestion as to the being in season and bleeding but i guess that if you have the dog neutered it should help this. but i dont know for sure
We went to the rescue centre with intent of getting a girl dog as that is what my boyfriend has always had but when we saw Bruno he was petrified and we fell in love with him - we had gone to the rescue with intent od adoptign a small dog though so this poor frightened white lump looked so patheticly scared we decided he needed a loving home - despite being told by a few people that there was more an agression thing with males (think someone forgot to tell my dog) he sat on my sons lap the whole way home and has bonded with all of us instantly.
hope someones aloong soon to offer answers you need
Sam

Bits. It's so much easier to avoid a girl's when absent-mindedly rubbing their bellies
.
I've not had a boy dog, so it's hard for me to compare. Our girl bled like a stuck pig, but I believe that's relatively unusual. Both of my parents' !!!!!es were very light (perhaps one or two spots).
Unless you're thinking of breeding, seasons won't be an issue. There's just no point to my mind in taking the risk that she'll be got at, so she's booked in for a spaying. Plus there's the cancer issue.
EDIT: Just to confirm, after being spayed !!!!!es don't come into season, so no blood. At least that better be the way it works!0 -
LOL - thanks for the replies so far.
Cancer is more of an issue then with !!!!!es?

To be honest there isnt much difference if you have them done. And unless your planning on bleeding Id definately reccomend getting either done.
With !!!!!es it stops the bleeding / lowers risk of cancer / stops her having pups accidently.
With dogs it calms them down and can make them less agressive
All I can say is go for the one you fall in love withGreen and White Barmy Army!0
