Jellyhead - I've only just found out in the last two months about it being difficult for tongue-tied babies to breastfeed, and also that my little boy is tongue tied - he's 3years 10months so about time I knew I suppose! (He's got to go to the hospital about that). He's had problems talking, but has only recently seen a paed who has referred him about his tongue.

I was a great believer in an empty bottle and a carton of ready made milk when I was out!

What a lovely thing for your MW to say. I benefit from having a lovely HV who has always given me great support.

TBH I really struggled getting to 16 weeks with mine, they were showing all the signs, making movements with their tongue, waking up when they used to sleep thru.

somebody will be along soon to tell you that if you were breastfeeding your milk would have changed to suit your baby :-p

my eldest is 9 years old and i was actually told off for NOT weaning at 4 months. he didn't want it though, wouldn't even entertain the idea before he was 9 months old. i know mums who've struggled to get to 16 weeks and the longer they hold off feeding the more miserable for baby, mum and entire family. my baby is 16 weeks old today and showing absolutely no sign of wanting baby rice, he hasn't changed his milk intake since he was 5 weeks old. that doesn't make me a superior mum for holding off on weaning, i just happen to have a baby who's not ready for it yet. the girl in the next bed to me in hospital started feeding her baby this week and the negative comments she gets are making her very stressed - her baby wants food, the health visitor has told her a bit of baby rice won't hurt.

i use milepa too, but my baby takes in maybe 1 x 200ml carton every 3 days. i mix breast and bottle and i still am made to feel like an evil mum. my midwife had the nerve to tell me that even though i struggle to keep my kid awake on the breast, she's positive i can manage to keep her awake for more than 30 mins to eat!

it amazes me that someone could breast feed for more than 30mins!

still the odd bottle isnt harmful and as my dad says, he raised 6 kids on the bottle and 3 of us are at uni so it cant be all bad!

it seems to me that whatever you do someone will disapprove!! i will be doing what suits baby & the rest of the family when this one comes next week! last time i did as health visitor said to the letter & ended up with a miserable baby, post natal depression & an unhappy husband.
Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!

i do this too! im exclusive breast feeding but when it comes down to it, my screwed up facein pain when my baby first latches on (its only asecond but it still hurts!)and the fact that i have to hold the breast in order to position properly means that im not comfortable feeding in public, the odd carton of ready made milk although not the best situation, frankly is better than be stared at/complained about/being told you're disgusting.

and the nipple relief for a few hours is wonderful!

You've done it before...so you'll have all the added confidence with this one. Go with your gut feeling and most of all enjoy it....well after the sleepness nights have finished!

Good luck and all the best :D
