ac adaptor not recognised

when i connect my laptop to the mains it doesnt recognised ive plugged in the adaptor until i twist it around then i got a message to say ac adaptor can not be determined and that my battery wont charge.

does anyone know what could be wrong? dont want to buy a new adaptor incase its not that as this ones only baout 8 mths old

    It sounds like you have pulled on the power lead and the socket does not now have a good connection to the motherboard. Therefore unlikely that a new PSU would fix this.

    I had exactly the same problem and it was as you've said, I'd stood on it :rolleyes:

    I picked a PSU up on Ebay for about £10

    If the socket that you plug the power supply lead into is loose, then a new power supply will make no difference. Easy for a real engineer to fix but the problem is finding someone who can/will do it for you for a reasonable price.

    Yep, it was just the PSU that was broken not anything in the laptop itself. I had a few little wires sticking out of the connection that plugs into the laptop so I knew it was about to go to PSU heaven :rolleyes:

    have just tried the charge on my old laptop and its not charging that either so must be the charger?


    so i fiddled with it in my laptop and about 20% of the time it will charge so i dont know now

    I would take the power supply thing into maplins or somewhere similar and ask if they could put a multimeter on it just so you can see if you need to get a replacement or not. If you explain the problem, they might help as they sell power supplies themselves.

    ive no idea what maplins is dont have on here, but i assume theyre either a electrical or pc retailer. either way have neither i can get to as i live in the sticks lol
