If your tax code ends in L then you gain 60 onto it from 7th September 2008. Basic code goes from 543L to 603L. It's the equivalent of £10 per month rebate to sept if on cumulative and not in higher tax bracket.

It's the chancellors way of fixing getting rid of the 10% bracket in April. Therefore if you've paid full tax at 20% then you should get a £50 rebate in September and then pay £10 less per month thereafter. If you're a higher 40% payer then no difference.

Increased to £443 per month Jan 09.
  • Got the Standing Order form from CCCS. Put it somewhere safe so had a bit of a problem finding it again but got it now.

Sorted last direct debit so they should all go out of new account now. Off to HBOS to see if I can cancel my SO with Council Tax as can't do it online or on telephone banking as one is enquiry only and the other needs a 6 digit number I don't know.

Then to RBOS to sort out 3 new standing orders if I can do them in the branch. Can't do online yet as no card reader. Taking a longggggg time to arrive.

I have a positive balance in a bank account for the first time in about 3 years. Don't want to see it all go.

Monday is day to pay first DMP payment. Hoping to send it through bank rather than transcash.

  • Hi Parsley and everyone else! Im anewbie and just read the threads. I rang the cccs yesterday and have been bombarded with so much info! They recommended i go bankrupt but the other solution was a low start dmp. Which is an answer to my prayers! Was just wondering if the debt diary is helping you??

    Hi Zoeysmum.

I find the diary helps me to collect my thoughts together and keeps me right on what I need to get done. I don't update as much as I did at the start as I'm into the plan now so there's less to be done.

Phone calls have started again from TSB even though I know there are notes on both of our cards not to phone until the DMP is agreed. Even if they don't agree it there's no point in worrying as they can't have what I don't have and I'm sticking to it.

Costs are going up so less leeway than there was. Can't wait for my pay increase so I can re-do the SOA and get more accurate figures.

Tax code should have been changed automatically if L code. I'm looking forwards to my £50 rebate but have yet to decide if I'm going to spend it or save it. I suspect save it.

Ran the pensioners payroll today and the tax bill is a lot lower than last month so looks like the rebate has kicked in correctly.

Welcome back Amy. Glad you enjoyed your holiday.

  • Slightly depressed today as got bill in for TSB credit card and has late payment fee, overlimit fee and £230 interest. I only paid £72 this month so it's going up again.

When I phoned last month they said they'd put a hold on the account so no more phone calls or charges until the DMP was looked at but looks like they lied. Not really surprised. Had two phone calls today from them while I was out but I'm not speaking to the people in India ever again if I can avoid it. They don't have a clue what I'm talking about and they don't live in our economy so how can they possible understand. I don't know what their living conditions are like so how can they know mine.

Could rant for ages on this topic but not going to. Will post on the DMP thread as well to see what other people's experiences have been like.
