If your looking for a gaming laptop - Don't expect to get a very good one at a low price. You tend to get what you pay for with computers - Especially for gaming as the graphics card is the pricest part of the system.

There are 2 x market leaders in gaming laptops:

    Alienware

    and

    Rock Direct

I have used Roick Direct for years now and never had a complaint. As a great addition, they do a 3 year collect and return warranty.

Again, neither of these are the cheapest!

And it can also take far more than 256MB RAM. Whoever told you that the slot limited the RAM the graphics card can have should be fired for being incompetent.
Well, there are some situations where the dell guy is right. Vista32 means there's a 4Gb memory maximum. Part of this is used up for windows addressing, and part of this is used up by the graphics card memory. Whatever is left is the maximum ram your system can see. Some top spec graphics cards are coming out with 1Gb memory. Getting one of them would limit the ram the system could see to below 3Gb ;)

But those 1Gb graphics cards are overkill at the moment.

Anyway, each month Toms Hardware does a review of grpahics cards available, recommending different cards at different price points, and it ends with a table showing how all the cards rank in relation to each other. For some reason its not being done on the UK site anymore, but you can still find the US one here. There'll be price differences between there and here, but the table at the end will be right.

    And who mentioned laptops, johng?

The OP isn't looking for a Laptop and you can get a gaming PC from lots of places wothout paying Alienware's or Roc k Direct's prices.

To the OP if you're looking at buying a gaming PC from Dell have a look at their XPS range.

Also, depending on how technically minded you are, it might be cheaper to buy the components separately and build it yourself. Though the main problem with this is that it doesn't come with the package warranty that the Dells do. Though on the other hand, depending on the components you buy, they often come with 1, 3, 5 or even lifetime guarantees, something I don't think dell do.
