Ryanair Baggage Query - two people, one bag

What I can't understand is that if the trip is only for 3 nights, why would you need to check in any baggage anyway?

You have 10kg cabin baggage each. Why not leave all the unnecessary rubbish at home and you'd find there was no problem.;)
Maybe the OP is going to a wedding or other special function.
Maybe they're taking some presents to the family.
Although me & OH can manage (easily) on just hand luggage for a 3 night/4 day city break, it doesn't mean that everyone can do the same.
The OP has obviously considered the amount of baggage they are going to take.0 -
I just have this picture in my mind of a bloke wearing 4 or 5 y fronts one on top of the other when Gents said wear all of your clothes!!!!!!0

So, just returned from holiday and was totally stitched up at Valencia airport. Packing to come home was a bit of a problem as we didn't have any scales in the apartment to weigh the bags (did think about taking some with us but that would have pushed us over the 15Kgs
), so we guessed.
At check-in, we put the first of our three bags on the scales and it was under 15Kg - phew. The second bag, however, was over the limit but by this time the first under-weight bag has disappeared "down the chute". The third bag was over as well so we were 5Kgs over in total = 75 Euros (for the sake of clarity, we were under 45Kgs for three bags).
Lesson learnt (if I were ever to travel on RyanAir again, but I won't) is to hold up the check-in queue whilst you weigh every bag (not letting the check-in person get their hands on it) and transplant one's used smalls between suitcases, as appropriate.0 -
2am in the morning and After 3 glasses of wine,I got it into my head to book my brother & sister a flight before the ever extended sale ends.
I took extra special care to tick 0 bags checked in + online checkin etc.
double checked the dates and names,
My payment card didn't work the first time, so this must've distracted me:
I blame the wine and ryanair 'cuteness' for the following charges I just paid
Fees, Services and Travel Insurance
4 x (Priority Boarding) 16.00 EUR
Handling Fee 10.00 EUR
Handling Fee 10.00 EUR
07 Days Adult Insurance 12.00 EUR
07 Days Adult Insurance 12.00 EUR
Total Payment Amount
Including handling fee
So beware, make sure to properly read everything, I just paid an extra E60 because of that wine, a bit of tardiness and ryanair website's lack of user-friendliness0 -
Two useful things to remember to avoid excess baggage charges (1) buy a set of luggage scales (about £15 and fit in a jacket pocket) or (2) before you get to check in use a closed checkin desk to weigth all your bags (hand and checked) and more stuff around as required to ensure they are all under the limit. Both of these can save you money. I had a set of scales with me when I flew back from Girona in the summer and weigthed severals people luggage for them whcih allowed them to move stuff around before they got 'caught' by the checkin scales because by then its too late.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

These scales are ideal for taking with you to avoid being caught out with extra charges
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1164
Works out less than £7 delivered ( takes about 2 weeks to arrive from Hong Kong though).
Having the scales with you means can move stuff around when packing to make sure you are under the limits.
These ones at argos are ok too

I have both.0 -
Excuse my stupidity but am I correct in thinking that me,wife, son and daughter can each take on a cabin bag weighing up to ten kilos, each of us can also pay for and book a hold bag weighing up to 15 kilos? i.e. between hold/cabin luggage upto twenty five kilos each. Please someone put me out of misery and confirm if this is the case

the best way of weighing bags is use the aiport scales , at valencia there are numerous check in desks and no doubt some of them will be switched on to weigh your bags, or even get to the ryanair check in before it opens and use the same scales that will be used when you check in.
there is enough fuss about airport scales being incorrect, but they are the ones that matter not your own ones that may be spot on0
