Ryanair Baggage Query - two people, one bag

I'm flying from East Midlands to Shannon in three weeks' time with my partner, on the same booking.
As it's only for three nights, we only want to take one bag to check in and one smaller bag each for hand luggage. Obviously the big bag will have both our clothes in it. Is this allowed?
I've booked airport check-in and no checked luggage for me and airport check-in and one checked bag for my OH. Was this the right thing to do?
The website says: "Each passenger is permitted to check in up to 3 bags with a maximum combined weight of 15kgs, subject to the payment of the applicable checked baggage fees....No pooling or sharing of baggage allowances is permitted, even within a party travelling on the same reservation."
I've been reading some people's stories on here and got worried!

Yes, that is correct. You could have done two separate bookings and one of you done online check in, but to do it on one booking you have done it correctly. You have a total hold allowance of 15kg, and then you can each take one bag of up to 10kg each.Gone ... or have I?0

As long as the one bag doesn't weigh more than 15kg then there's no problemObviously the big bag will have both our clothes in it. Is this allowed?
If the one bag does weigh more than 15kg then it would be better to change your booking so you each have one bag as Ryanair excess baggage fees @ £12 per kg soon mount up0 -

Right, there's been a change of plan and now I'm going to take a bag of my own too. How do I change my Ryanair booking?
Many thanks
ETA: Never mind, done it now!

Does anyone know how far in advance you can book with Ryan air & I thought you had to pay £24 a bag?0

You can book with Ryanair as far as their timetables allow you.
As for luggage - it's £8 for the first bag per person per flight if booked online, £16 if done at the airport & £16 for the 2nd & 3rd bags per person per flight.
Then add on the airport check-in fee of £4 per person per flight which is compulsory if travelling with checked luggage

The £24 would be £8 each way for onechecked in bag of no more than 15kg, (£16) plus £4 each way for airport check in (£8). To save these fees you just use your 10kg hand luggage and do online check in. To save on fees of £4 pp per flight (so £8pp return) you use visa electron to pay (there are threads on where to get one).skinflint1 wrote: »Does anyone know how far in advance you can book with Ryan air & I thought you had to pay £24 a bag?
With regard the op, I would have booked one person with a bag annd airport check in and done a separate booking for the other person, to save on the £8 airport check in fees. As said before just make sure the checked in bag for both your clothes etc is under 15kg. The quote you gave is refers to the fact that each bag has to be 15kg or under per person. eg. so if 2 people were travelling with checked in bags, they could not combine charges so 30kg to have 20kg and 10kg, without them being charged for the excess on the 20kg (or having to redistrubute weight to avoid charges).0 -
I've got confused with Ryanair baggage allowance and in the end called their 10p/min call centre, which was a recorded message telling to call a £1/minute number!
However, I did get clear information although it was disappointing. No doubt some of you are aware of this but as it is my first time on Ryanair (and quite possibly my last), I thought I would take 5 minutes to explain what I have been told.
If you choose to check in baggage, you have a limit of 15Kg per person regardless of the number of bags you check in. If you want to check in two bags (that will be £16 per bag return), you can still only take 15Kg in total. If you go over 15Kg, you will be charged £12 per kilo (effectively £24/kilo for the return flight) and that's going to add up.
If you "buy" another allowance for another member of your group, they have to have their own bag, as each bag must be under 15Kg. So, instead of taking one large bag, you will have to take two.
You can take 10Kg of carry-on but the thought of lugging 40Kg of carry-on through the airport isn't great.
My advice, wear all your clothes and next time when comparing flight costs, don't forget to add in all the extras as those headline prices on comparison websites don't compare apples and apples.
Hope this helps someone.0 -
Welcome to MSE Gents! xGone ... or have I?0

I did just this Gents! ie wear all my clothes! Well a lot of them anyway, the rest were in hand luggage and underwear was stuffed in pockets. Fortunately this was for a winter flight so I could get away with looking like the Michelin Man waddling to check in!!! However, it was a nightmare and I have taken checked baggage since!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

What I can't understand is that if the trip is only for 3 nights, why would you need to check in any baggage anyway?

You have 10kg cabin baggage each. Why not leave all the unnecessary rubbish at home and you'd find there was no problem.;)0
