Laptop won't boot. Config.sys missing or corrupt

    Ok now if it is allowed to start normally it simply says operating system not found. But it claimes that the XP CD is damaged. This si REALLY getting frustrating now can anybody PLEASE help

    Have you added and external hard drive or anything like that today?
    If not go to the last link I put in and look for How To Create a bootable CD to access the Recovery Console. This should download a program you will need to burn onto a CD then put that into the machine you have the problem with. That should take you to the recovery console and when your there come back and tell us.

    Im already one step ahead. I made this CD and the recover console didnt laod. It jsut asked for xp cd. but wouldnt even let me open the cd tray to put it in.

    If you have a safety pin then where the CD is there is a small hole. Put the pin in and the CD should pop out and then try the XP disc.
    If this doesn't work then you may have to borrow or buy a new copy of XP.

    Giving me errors reading cd roms now. It hangs when I select recovery console then asks for xp cd. i open and close the drawer but still asks for it. It has done this with 2 seperate cds now. I am rerady to throw this through the window

    It hangs and white line at bottom reads "Examining 57232 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi..."

    I've just down a search and it may look like the HDD has failed and cannot be recovered or fixed.
