Dear all
Broadband is now a must have utility why then when you try to change ISP for the most appropriate deal do the providers say it will take up to a month in which you are likely to have no service. If the gas and electricity suppliers can change over instantly should we be held to ransom from the telecommunications industry?

There's no reason why you should be without service for more than a couple of hours if you make the arrangements correctly. When I changed ISP last year I gave the new one my MAC; they gave me the transfer date and the transfer went through with only one minor hitch. Just make sure the transfer is timed before the contract with the old ISP expires."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0

Unlike gas and electricity where it all comes down the same pipe, broadband comes down different ones depending who you are getting it from. If your ISP is using BT as a carrier then changeover is a simple matter, however if you are moving to an LLU or from LLU to LLU then someone (BT) has to physically move your connection, which will have to be booked and take a little time. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Also, I have found that the delay is usually from LLU back to BT line. Although voice activation is a matter of hours a new BB order can only be made once the landline is reactivated - hence 7-14 days. (Of course, Gas and electricity suppliers do not move pipes.)0
