Private number showing on new mobile phone....WHY???

Hi

I have just brought a PAYG mobile phone from three, got it home and all works ok......BUT when I call it from my home phone it comes up with "private number calling" (I'm with virgin, but line rental from BT) I called my old mobile (T-mobile) and that works fine show "home calling)

I then called my three mobile from home phone but put 1280 in front of the number (which then routes it through BT) and it came up with "home calling"

Any ideas why three phone is coming up with "private number calling"???

Have you saved your home number as HOME on your new phone or on your new sim card?

  • yes i have saved my home number in the new phone...... even if i hadn't it should have came up with the number calling rather than "private number"
  • My home line is with Virgin but sometimes calls out and gives a private number, it's an issue with Virgin, not the mobile. I was with 3 s well funnily enough, sometimes the number showed, sometimes it didn't.
  • my line is also with virgin.... but when i call my t mobile phone the number shows!!!!!

Yeah must be something weird with Virgin - my parents home number intermittantly showed up as witheld on my old contract (3), but now comes up as their number every time (Vodafone).

They always wondered why I didn't pick up before :)
