Can I claim JSA and do a car boot?

I would be selling all my unwanted junk/treasure and some of my Mum's hand made cards. Would this be classed as working and would I have to declare it to the Job Centre? I know they allow you to earn £5 before they deduct any other more earnings from your JSA.

    No just do it.

It's not like it is a business - once it's gone, it's gone.

Selling your own items is fine. However selling the cards would be classed as running a business, so you would need to declare any profit made from them.

The cards are made by my Mum and I am selling at my stall. All profits are going to her, so would that affect me or just my Mum have to declare them for herself?

Your mum should be paying you to sell them. You are in effect working for free, which would not be acceptable to the JCP.

I really don't think it would be an issue. I doubt you'd even sell many at a carboot sale.

I fail to see that it would be classed as "working" by most normal standards to be perfectly honest with you! Your Mum should really register as self employed and pay tax on her cards out of the profit but that's not really your concern.

Storms and teacups in my opinion. I would just do it.

If you are selling something that was bought/ made in order to make a profit, then you are working.

What you would do, and what the DWP say someone should do, are not necessarily the same thing. It is all a question of whether you want to get caught or not.

Fair enough, but like he says - he hasn't made them, his Mum has. So I don't think it's a clear cut issue and I honestly don't think the JCP would be bothered anyway.

Especially seeing as how you're allowed to go and car boot old stuff without it affecting your benefits. That's technically working still even though it's only to cash in on the depreciative value.

OP you could always just ring the JCP and ask if you're that bothered. If it was me, I'd just do it. Each to their own though.

i think that was really uncalled for. someone could pick at you for not starting your sentence with a capital letter if you wanna get like that. spelling is not what this thread is about

Why do people come on these boards just to criticise genuine posters trying to get some advice?
If it upsets you so much, don't read the posts! The OP is asking an honest question and trying to do the right thing - and they are getting abuse. Nobody but the poster knows their circumstances so please stop it now.
