O2 3g sim card question..

I've just bought a new contract on O2 for my mum. The deal was 200mins 200texts which is more than enough for what she needs. She wants to keep the Sony Ericsson phone I bought her about a year ago as its pretty easy to use and not too technical etc. However when the new simcard turned up from O2 it was 3g. Now the phone she has is NOT 3g so will this cause compatibility problems?

Its just that I remember someone saying that if you use a Three network sim in a 2g phone the network can tell and it may void your contract (but not in a good way).

Any techie advice very welcome .

Hi Steve,

The sim shouldwork fine in the phone, it is 3g capable but it doesn't have to be used. The issue with 3 is that it would lock the phone as it sometimes picked up another network from what I recall as people used their sims to roam on O2's 2G network and it cost them money so they did that to prevent it.
