Cling Film on Windows

Options
Hi, I know there are probably a million posts on this subject but I can't find one. I have purchased the cling film from Wilcos and I wondered if anyone has any tips or pointers before we start. Trying to get this done before we start freezing later on.
Thanks

I have done this for several years (no double glazing in th eback of the house) The film is very fiddly so make sure you have unfolded it fully. when we first used it I thought I had cut it to fit my windows only to find it would unfold again!!! make sure you put quite an overlap on th edouble sided sticky tape I have found at least 3 inches over is best. push firmily on the tape and leave it for about an hour. it will look wrinkly but that is ok. After the hr- more if you can start the hairdrying from the top left corner going verticaly it soon smooths out. works a treat. you may find you need to restick th etape if t is on for a long time and any rips/tears can be fixed over with regular selotape.
    Hope that helps.

My only tip would be don't leave little children alone in a room with the cling-film on the windows!! My grandparents used to use this and I'll never forget the day when my little cousin 'disappeared' for ages ... turned out he'd been in the bathroom 'popping' the clingfilm, there were hundreds of tiny holes all over the windows!

We've been doing this for about 20 years, and use ordinary clingfilm and double sided tape which works out much cheaper. The only problems we ever had were the cats playing with it, but all it needs is to take that strip off and replace it with another - we do it in strips across the window.

This seems like a great idea!... is it just "normal" kitchen clingfilm? and is there a website that with a "how to guide"?

just posted this on Say No to Gas/Electric - hope it helps - Wilko's today have 6pk 'Window Seal' £5.99, 12 pk £9.99 - it;s the stuff you put over draughty windows & use a hairdryer to seal it - instructions are on the box.

This is useful even if you have double glazing - Triple is better!

  • Just out of interest does it actually make much difference?

We don't have double glazing at the back and will try this if it does actually work!

Found it useful on our boat (in a cold part of France) Be sure to really clean the windows first and try to apply it on a dry day (condensation)

I have found it a god send and add to it thermal lined curtains and my kids rooms are warmer than mine- double-glazed at the front. we used to swap the rooms around in winter but since doing this haven't had too.
