BT Rented Phones

The phones aren't recycled and when the rental is cancelled or you take out a new rental phone BT will tell you to dispose of the old phone how you like.
My partner had been renting a phone from BT for 15 years. When she contacted them to cancel the rental and come and collect the phone they told her she could keep it.0 -
I've just been searching these forums to see if I could find what people do if they want shot of a phone rented from BT. From what is being said here it isn't clear whether the rental charge was actually removed from the BT bill.JohalaReewi wrote: »My partner had been renting a phone from BT for 15 years. We have been renting a BT phone for 20+ years, but we don't use it. We replaced our main phone with a digital tone "dial" ansaphone years ago and have another tone dial phone in another room. The old rented phone is pulse dial so no good for some uses, such as when you are required to key in numbers to the keypad.
 So - going back - my main question, is it possible to successfully get the phone rental removed from the bill even if they say keep or dispose the phone yourself?0 -
Yes, assuming you mean phone rental & not line rental
See post by JohalaReewi above, seems just a phone call or maybe letter, it was so long ago now I can't remember how I cancelled my mother's phone rental, I had to take the phone along to the local exchange, which may indicate how long ago that wasWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -

Now, they send you a pre-paid plastic bag to post it back to them or just tell you to dispose of it.
Instead of phoning or writing a letter, it might be possible to do this online - using this form.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
