Conservatory Salesman price!

We have just had a man from Anglian to give us a price on a conservatory, 5.4m width x 2.7m depth. Started at 24k, then summer sales discount to 18k. Eek! Then said if we took finance would discount to 16k. No way I was paying those interest rates, then we got the 'if you sign today' which my OH said no way but I was curious so showed interest. He then did the must go and phone boss stuff and came back with a sign now price of £14,700. Only other quote so far was a local company who quoted £13,300 and did not include building regs as we want to remove doors. We were impressed with Anglian product, was far superior to what we have seen in other showrooms, clear solar glass as others were tinted and they do all building regs for you. Anyone think we could push for more off and any opinions from people with knowledge of their products would be a great help. He reckoned they were doing well at the moment but I beg to differ as I only phoned them at 4pm yesterday, he came this morning and it was a 2 hour drive for him to get here, 3 hours with us then 2 hours home, hmm!

Local builder did design for edwardian with tinted self-cleaning glass roof, no electrics or plumbing and said just take doors out and don't worry about building regs. Anglian is what they called garden room (lean-to) said they would take care of building regs, glass solar roof, 2 electric sockets and a light but we would have to get our own plumber which is no problem. Both included all works apart from painting(knocking through, plastering etc was included).

  • anglian price is very expensive in my opinion lean to conservatories are far cheaper than edwardian by at least £1000 .are they doing tiling /flooring/flagging .personally i would leave the doors conservatories get very hot and this transfers to whole house .

No, no floors included. Lean to does suit as it is quite a simple design and that is what we want, maybe we should go back to local guy and get him to quote for that and also see what others say as we are getting more quotes next week. What is the better roof, clear solar glass or the blue tinted self cleaning glass. Everybody seems to have something different to say, I'm getting confused.

  • because if its lean too its a big area of flat glass which heats up were as edwardian style is split up more and at different angles

Think of when you will be getting the sun into your conservatory. Depending on which way your conservatory will face will determine which roof you want. We had a conservatory built about 8 years ago (sun came into conservatory in the morning) and had an opaque roof. We then moved into a house with a conservatory already built. This has a clear roof (although the previous owners had blinds put in - at more cost) and the sun hits it in the afternoon - so it is very hot.
Please also bear in mind the windows you are going to have in there - we only have very small ones and it is impossible to get the air to blow around in there.

Will be south facing but we are wondering about this new solar glass, so far have been offered Anglians own make and the tinted Pilkington which is also self cleaning. Both salesmen said theirs was best!!!

  • we fitted a conservatory last year for a client who was adamant about having the rear doors removed we have since been back to fit new doors in the opening that was south facing
