    Hi Birdy,

Lucky you! Apples freeze very well. They won't go off in the freezer and will last for as long as they're frozen for.

There is more advice on these threads:

    freezing apples

    Freezing stewed apples

And this thread may give you ideas for using them up:

    What To Do With Apples?

I'll add your thread to the first linkl later to keep the replies together.

    I stew & freeze apples.
Just make sure you freeze them in useable portions so none gets wasted.

I make an apple puree cake sometimes which also freezes well in slices and is good for you as you use less processed sugar-the apple adds the sweetness and keeps it moist.

I also do some muffins with cooked fruit (whatever is around) and oats so brekie type muffins-again freeze well.

You can make apple leathers/dried apple slices as alternative ways to store them without filling the freezer.

Or do some foraging and do apple and blackberry jam.

my kids would be wacking loads through the juicer for lovely fresh apple juice and apple based smoothies.

Thanks for the replies above and I'm SO sorry for posting the same message 3 times! The computer must've had a bit of a blip last night as the thread didn't show up so I tried again...and again!

I didn't know it had gone through so I've only gone and posted a new thread tonight! Feel free to ignore.

Thanks Sproggi. I tried to post a thread on this last night, however, my computer 'blipped' so I didn't think I'd posted. I tried again...and again...and now it shows 3 times on the 'freezing apples' thread!

    My apologies.

BTW - would never have thought to place sliced apples in salted water prior to freezing, always though it was lemon juice! I assume any 'salt taste' disappears on defrosting?

    Hey Birdy,

Don't worry about it, it's not a problem. :) It's something that's happened to me and many others at one stage or another. :o I've removed the extra posts so that the thread makes more sense. Hope that's ok with you?

We peel and core and cut them up and chuck them straight in the freezer like that. I found I was spending far too much time drying them after they'd been put in water - then picking the fluff off them from the tea-towels :( if you put them in just as sliced apple, they don't really stick to each other much and you don't have to dry them first. If you put them in water & lemon but don't dry them before you freeze them, you end up with a 20lb popsicle and have to chip the apples off with a hammer lol
