Hi
I would like some information on the tuning chips that are available that you just plug in, are they really any good, are they a waste of money, do they damage the engine in anyway, would it affect the emmission test, well any pro's and cons that anyone know of these products.

http://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=484

Thinking of getting one for a Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 hdi 110bhp, would i gain anything from getting one. ?

Many thanks in advance

They work as advertised but they have been known to knacker injectors on common rail diesels.

Thanks Conor, so not advisable to bother with them then if its going to cause problems with repairs etc.

i wouldnt advise them either, they do exactly what they say but as conor has pointed out the will knacker your injectors within a few thousand miles.
the engine will also run warmer than it should for prolonged periods of time, i know a guy who thought it was great that his seat ibiza tdi had 150 bhp but when the exhaust gas sensors melted in the exhaust and the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree he wasnt too happy,he was warned about the dangers so i felt quite smug when he told me. he was lucky it was just a sensor and was relativly cheap to repair.

You need to do some more research via an owners forums. There are certainly easy gains to be made with Diesel and Turbo Diesel engines, but it's at your own risk.

Arent some of them adjustable ?
So you can set them to economy or power.

I would be interested in an economy one, but not if it was going to cause damage.

  • I have a plug in tuning box, I can feel the difference and I have driven 120,000 miles without a single problem. The car is now upto 220,000 miles on the clock.
There is a little bit more smoke some times when I push it but that's it.
The car is a VW bora TDI 115BHP.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

Insurance companies regard them as modifications, so declare them to enable a premium increase!

What make/model is your tuning box then ? ;)
  • Mine was from PDtuning.co.uk I'm not sure if it's still going

It is a simple resistor to fool the diesel temperature sensor and works really well. I have access to every single resistor there is but as above, Insurance companies would not be happy. The one I bought was a tiny little box with genuine VW stamped connectors. VERY VERY hard to spot.

  • I've just fitted a tuneit box to one of my vans to try and save money. It's real easy to fit and makes it much nicer to drive.
On a test run it saved over 10% on fuel. My van does 1000+ miles a week, so I'll soon be able to tell you if it's reliable or cream crackers the injectors.
