Fuming at Asda

Sorry to vent

Just received my order from my online shop with Asda and I am not a happy bunny for several reasons

1. A special offer on Coors Light 2 packs of 4 for 6, didn't come off my bill.

2. I rang the helpline and was fobbed off saying it will come off just check my bank account to make sure. What was the point of the receipt then?

3. On further inspection I have been given a variety of types of Coors (one 4.5% the other 5%.) One pack of four is a mixture of the two and is badly damaged. I suspect these have made into a pack by someone.

4. The three 5% cans best before date reads 31st January 2008 I am appalled at this, and I've already drank one of them.

So I rang the helpline again who has contacted the store manager. He is going to ring me tomorrow morning? What should I expect from him, is there anything I should do or say? I also see from a search that this has happened before.

Thanking you in advance,

Foo

Return the products and ask for your money back.

On point 4, "best before" means just that - it is "Best before" Jan 08, it is still perfectly safe to drink after that. As far as I know, it is not illegal to sell products past their best before date. Compare it to "Use By" which means that it has to be used by the date shown otherwise it will be off and dangerous!

I would not expect to buy a product that was out of date, even if it is "best before" and not "use by".

When I complain, I always do it politely, mistakes do sometimes happen, however if they happen too regularly it is not acceptable.

so why have a best before date on the item, i always thought it was advisable to not have a product on the shelf which is past its best before date,

Is is true also that a shop can be fined a substantial sum if they have out of date products on the shelf? I am thinking "use by" dates here.

    Xmas Saver!
If your not sure, give the environmental health office a ring at your local council. the use by date being 6 mths may be of interest to them.

Are you sure the date was BBE date and not the production date ?

Shops are allowed to sell food after its 'best before' date has passed. 'best before' dates are concerned with quality rather than safety, so it doesn't mean that the food is dangerous if the 'best before' date has passed. However, if you buy food after the date, remember that it might no longer be at its best.

'Use by' dates are different to 'best before' dates and it is against the law to sell any food that has passed its 'use by' date. Using it after this date could put your health at risk.

In all cases, whether or not the 'best before' date has expired, the law says that food sold must not put people's health at risk and must not be falsely or misleadingly described or presented.

In the case of your beer, it will not go 'off' as such because the alcohol in it will prevent the growth of nasty bugs!

The flavour will be best before January 08 probably, but I suspect with Coors it will taste just as bad before and after the best before date. Along with most American beers... but thats my personal preference!

Most shops reduce goods past 'best before' so I suspect this was an error. Despite there being no danger, if I'm paying full price I expect full taste! I wouldn't buy anything that long after its date at whatever price anyway.

Perfectly legal. Bought some milkshakes for the kids a few months ago from Asda that were "out of date". Apparently still safe to drink and legal!
