Help Calor gas alternative

Hi,
We recently moved house (to a 3 bed detached) and we currently have calor gas (comes in like mains gas but twice the price).
I have a cold water feed tank in the loft, hotwater tank and boiler in the airing cupboard that does shower, hot water and central heating.
The boiler is about 20 years old and struggles a bit.
However the whole house has been very well insulated.
We cant have oil tank but when we can afford it I will change to something else solar/wind (we live on the coast) anything but calor!!
Until then I was thinking of changing to an electric shower (we capped our rate) and a wood burner (plenty of drift wood.)
in the front room and putting on the central heating only when really needed.
Does this make sense?
Any other ideas?
How much does a shower cost to run?
Thanks

Do you have a tank in your garden?0

I found the same... its very expensive but normally you have to have a tank to be with calor gas... I nearly fell off my chair when I found that in 2 years the price to fill up their small ground mounted tank cost £500! Although unlike this gentleman my cooker/shower/oven is all electric so washing up etc is done via the dishwasher so my costs are a little reduced. I also use my ground floor two open fires to heat up the ground floor but still a bind to clean them up after every use and to get the chimneys cleared out.
Do you know of any other calor gas alternative supplier?0 -
Your one consolation is that if your tank ever gets damaged you won't have a contaminated land issue, as all the gas will just go into the atmosphere.
An oil spill round a house is messy and can take a long time to resolve0
