Help Calor gas alternative

Hi,
We recently moved house (to a 3 bed detached) and we currently have calor gas (comes in like mains gas but twice the price).
I have a cold water feed tank in the loft, hotwater tank and boiler in the airing cupboard that does shower, hot water and central heating.
The boiler is about 20 years old and struggles a bit.
However the whole house has been very well insulated.
We cant have oil tank but when we can afford it I will change to something else solar/wind (we live on the coast) anything but calor!!
Until then I was thinking of changing to an electric shower (we capped our rate) and a wood burner (plenty of drift wood.)
in the front room and putting on the central heating only when really needed.
Does this make sense?
Any other ideas?
How much does a shower cost to run?
Thanks

We are just coming to the end of 1st yr of a 2 yr contract. We have been paying 31.15 ppl and have just received notification of an increase to 47.10 ppl. The agreement signed last yr guaranteed increases would not exceed 3 ppl. On speaking to Calor they state under a clause 8a in the contract they can cancel the agreement at any time and this is what they have done therefore can now charge this amount.Flogas are 38.2 and Shell 40 until end 08 then 42.2 until end of a 2 yr contract i.e. 2010. I know nothing of Flogas!0
