Anyone know about car parking near Manchester Piccadilly?
Can anyone help? We're travelling from Manchester Piccadilly to London next Tuesday, returning on Thursday, and need to leave our car somewhere near the train station for those couple of days.
From looking on the NCP website and phoning them, I've found that there's a car park on Travis Street where we can leave the car for £4.50 per day (there used to be a nearer and cheaper one but it's now closed apparently).
Unfortunately you can't book a space in NCP car parks, but does anyone know how busy this car park gets- ie. what's the likelihood of just turning up and being able to get a space? It's all a bit risky....just wondered if there are any Mancunians out there who could give me some local knowledge! Or indeed if anyone has any better ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

You may find this site useful."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

That's a useful website, thank you.
But I really want to know how busy the Travis St. car park gets (as that's the nearest one to Picadilly) and how likely it is that I'd be able to get a space on Tuesday morning?
I do know which car park you are referring to as I used to see it on a regular basis when i waited for my train on the outer platforms.
In the mornings id say it will be pretty difficult to get a space as it will be rammed as other people will have the same idea. You may have more of a chance with the other car parks...and just walk to the station?"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

I'm also looking for the cheapest place to park around Piccadilly from Sunday morning to Monday night - I know the station car park is cheap on Sunday, but I'd be paying a lot more for Monday. I used to use Ducie Street NCP which was cheap but think it's gone now.
I can see that the Travis Street one and the Sheffield St car park near the station are both cheap - but I don't know if they are secure or 24 hours? - any ideas? Or any other suggestions?0 -

I was just about to mention the prostitute-intensive nature of that area!
I used to use Sheffield Street for work, and it was fine during the day (and £2, compared to £10 at The Grand) but when the sun goes down it does get a bit ropey. Never had any trouble, but I never felt like hanging round there either.
Mind you, when I used to go out on Canal Street I would leave my car at Chorlton Street car park, which was pretty expensive and over the bus station, and we used to regularly see rent boys in there at 3am. So I guess that's just city centre life for you!"I'm not a one-trick pony. I'm not a ten-trick pony. I'm a whole field of ponies - and they're all literally running towards this job."

I might risk it then, I've left mine in Chorlton St over night before, and Dale and Ducie Street (but when work were paying).

Do you know if Sheffield Street/Travis Street is 24 hours?
To be honest I can't remember (I don't live in Manchester any more) but I seem to recall that both had big gates, which would suggest that they're not - or at least, anything left there would not be accessible at certain times.
Might be worth giving the car park customer services people a quick ring.
Be thankful you don't have to leave your car in central London. I now work in Soho, and the Leicester Square car park is £35 per 24 hours.
WHO HAS THIS KIND OF MONEY. I mean, really."I'm not a one-trick pony. I'm not a ten-trick pony. I'm a whole field of ponies - and they're all literally running towards this job."

Bringing this post up again.
It's for the whole day Sunday - is there any cheap parking (from 7am to 9pm) or any single yellows around that area?0
