Hi it is now four days since I bought any food shopping and I think by staying away from shopping automatically I have saved at least a tenner. I tended to shop with out really thinking if I needed it or not . I'm all for this Buy Nothing day as I am saving bundles.0

LOL - it's now 9 weeks since I went to the supermarket :j
But we did spend £30 at the local butcher last weekend. This was unusually high as we had eight (yes EIGHT) house guests last weekend. But we had the most fantastic pork spare-rib roast at £5 per kilo (£2.70 per lb!!), plus breast of lamb (IIRC £2.50 per kilo). The leftover pork did two leftover meals (for 2 of us) and the breast of lamb did two meals too. Normally, we spend about £10 a week in the butcher in addition to £160 every three months in the supermarket (household, cleaning, tinned & dried goods only).
Oh and I bought a litre of milk from the village shop this morning. Still got leeks, cavola nero, kale, cabbage, brussels (not ready), winter lettuce, lambs lettuce and fresh herbs in the garden. Plus onions, shallots, garlic & pots in storage. Sorry ... that sounds like an awful brag, but if you can possibly stay out of the supermarket it does make a huge difference. 18 months ago, I spent £120 a week in Waitrose/Sainsburys!
Living 12 miles away from a supermarket is a godsend - add to that the fact that I hate leaving the village for any reason and I avoid the supermarket (now) at all costs. And when I do go, it's Lidl for me
The home-grown veg help too and I appreciate this is not for everyone. But if you can "get the bug" it really makes a huge difference to your shopping habits. You don't want to waste what you've grown and you will go out of your way to using it, even if you have the same or similar veg every day. Home-grown greens really are the biznizz
Thanks for indulging me ... sorry if I appear smug. I'm just an ordinary person who's trying to make my money work harder. Now then ..... where is that tax bill - ugh!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I haven't been to the supermarket for about 2months now too. Like you have been spending avg. £20 per week/two weeks on meat at the organic butchers and around £20 on veggies/essentials a week. I have been trying to use up all my kitchen cleaning products and will try and just use the old bicarb, vinegar and lemon once they all dissapear. I have just discovered I am pregnant so am keen to save as much as possible for impending baby and also make my life less toxic. Buy Nothing Day....bring it on![size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

Now then .... I used to live & work and "in town" and could easily leach £5-£10 a day on "stuff", but I really don't miss it.

My buy nothing days are when I work through lunch which is not good news if I don't manage to get to the butcher in Smithfield marketIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
