I agree great idea
I think that this would be too easy for all MSEers
How about a buynothingweek, now that would be a challenge!'Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales, thats's all she ever thinks about riding with the wind' - Little wing, Jimi Hendrix0 -
Did you ppl see the buynothingchristmas website? I WISH I COULD DO THAT - my kids would hate me if I did not give them something.
I wish I had the courage.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

i had a buy nothing week last week
did a grocery shop last tuesday and bought NOTHING at all after that until today when i did another grocery shop
am hoping i can keep this up : )0 -
I already do it consistantly, once a week anyway, .... Sundays.
And then once or twice a week as well ...... but then its just me. I dont do the big shop you all do. I lile to buy milk, fruit and veg as when I want, hence the small regular buys.0 -
I had no transactions from my current account between last Monday and today - so a whole week :T - took £20 out last Monday and still have about £8 of that left - so spent about £12 in a whole week :j
Spent no cash today either so that's a bonus - going to try and make the remaining £8 last until the weekend at least - and no cheating using my card eitherInitial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Mortgage as of 1st February 2024 - £159,134.98

Live in a village with no shop, work from home and be too lazy to go to the next village - I spend nothing most days
Now then .... I used to live & work and "in town" and could easily leach £5-£10 a day on "stuff", but I really don't miss it.
Then again, I am of course a Grumpy Old Woman shunning the evils of the post-consumerist society - and that helpsWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

wouldn't it be wonderful though, its so stressful trying to remember everything. I never hear the end of it if I forget the orange & lemon slices/cheese footballs etc. And all the money we would save! (I'm not really a scrooge - honest!)
broken wings, mah_jong, yorkielass & debt-free-chick I really admire you all. maybe a buynothingmonth would be in order!
seriously though I am glad that Liney posted this as I am really considering having a buynothingweek every month probably 2nd week of each month. As I spend £40 a week on groceries & delivery if I did this then I'd have over £500 in the bank by next Christmas. I'm thinking that if I cooked double meals the week before & bulked them out with veggies etc, put in freezer then I'd have all the meals for the week. This would be a big challenge for me don't think I have ever gone a week without buying anything.

I don't spend anything from one weekend to another normally - being stuck in a village 7 miles from the nearest cash point doesn't help....or does it? And I refuse to pay £4 for a return bus ticket...daylight robbery!
Working from home does have that advantage of not having a lunch hour to wander the shops looking at all those "must haves". I remember buying things during my lunch hour (pre kids) sticking them in my locker, then being surprise at home time that I'd managed to spend so much!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Why on earth would anyone buy cheese footballs?????0 -
Not a bad idea at all Liney, thanks for sharing it with us and Moonbeam for the idea of buynothingweek!
I find that if I write out a shopping list (and TRY to stick to it) around planned meals and go to the supermarket/shops just on one day a week, I can easily make the rest of the week go buy without spending.
Having said that, I don't always do itbut I think I will give it another go it coming up to christas and all that jazz!
