Virgin broadband + no land line

I've been with TalkTalk for almost 3 years. The service has been appalling. The only reason why I didn't leave sooner is that it's cheap and I'm lazy.
I also have 2 mobile contracts that are about to expire. I want to change networks.
I've been wondering if I really need a land line. I hardly ever use it. We always have lots of free minute left on our mobiles. I only really use the land line to call my family in the States, but I can easily use Skype for that.
I'm thinking of getting the £12/month Virgin Broadband service plus 2 £10/month Sim cards.
Is there any way that I can get that cheaper? I've checked quidco, but they only seem to offer cashback on bundles.
Also, does anyone know how long it would take to switch? I need broadband for work, so I cannot have a gap in between services. Last time I switched, I had over a month of crippling dial-up.
Cheers.

To get VM cable broadband without a landline, you need to be in a VM cabled area.
Otherwise, a regular landline is required for ADSL broadband access.
If your phone line was 'fully unbundled' from BT when you joined TalkTalk, it may now be quite expensive for you to reconnect back to BT or another phone provider, to be able to switch broadband providers.0 -
Virgin Media Cable Broadband Only £9 a month for first 12 months then renegotiate price.;)

Orange Racoon 10 sim card only offers inclusive landline evening calls. £10 a month.
(Cashback available on this from some sites).

I live in London, so I don't think that getting VM via cable is a problem.
The £9/month broadband option is only 2Mb. I'd rather pay more and get closer to 10Mb. If I'm not actually getting that speed, I'm guessing that they'll let me switch to the cheaper option.
I'm not sure that the Orange phone options are any better than Virgin. Virgin offers 200 mins + 200 texts, which is enough for me. I now have way more and never use them.0 -

Some areas don't actually have broadband even though you can get cable tv. It's due to how they originally wired the street. I use to live in an area like that in West London and one of my friend's currently does in South London.rainbow_carnage wrote: »The £9/month broadband option is only 2Mb. Depending on the package you after you may get a phone line in it chucked in with free line rental. That way you can connect a phone and call 0800 numbers which some mobile companies don't let you call for free or include in your package minutes.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Or use voip over your VM broadband service.0 -
Hey,
I recently saw an special offer on the virgin site for 2mb for £9 a month. So i thought fantastic and took it out, confirmed on the phone it was £9....GREAT
My first bill has come through.... £11 a month for broadband! So i rang them up and they said it isnt down for £9 its down for £11 and a sales person is going to call me in a couple of hours.
any advice where i stand i would like to be prepared for when they do ring. I havent signed nothing, just a verbal agreement with them over the phone. where do i stand?
thanks0
