BT Broadband Charging Twice?

I've just moved house and received a broadband bill for £50.93. I got my mum to call and query this with them and they said it's 'broadband line rental charges'.
HOWEVER, I've only just paid a bill of £74.97 on the 23rd July for my broadband next quarter. I couldn't get a straight answer out of the guy about why I have to pay again... He said "IF you've overpaid you'll receive a refund on your next bill" but he wouldn't commit and say I HAD overpaid OR WHY I was being charged again when I've only paid on the 23rd Jul...
Anyone moved and had this happen to them before? I can't really afford another £50 when I thought I had already paid...

I to have thought the same, but despite confronting them about it, they convinced me I was wrong. So you are probably right. I was lucky enough that one of my lecturers was previously employed by BT and gave me the email address of somebody at the top. despite a polite but blunt email I have still to recieve any kind of response or refund.
Roll on November when my contract is up, andI'm free to go else where to get a much better deal. I really don't know how BT can justify thier prices when virtually all other ISP's are much more competative. I would not reccomend them in any way shape or form, they are fast becoming out clased by all of thier competitors.0 -

FYI Just received a 'final bill' asking for another £12 from me!!!!
Called up on 0800800150 and got through to India. Took my details, put me through to someone else in India who cut me off before I even told him my issue.
Dialled again, got through to UK!! Hallelujah!! Took both my broadband account numbers. Saw I had made a payment of £75 on my old acct on 23 Jul to cover quarter 1st Jul to 30 Sep. Then went onto new account and saw £50 charge on 19th Aug to cover period 1st Aug to 30 Sep... Yes, he said, we do owe you £50
, I am not sure why but the old account is still open.
WHAT!??!?! But I told you i was MOVING!!!!
He said he has issued a credit note to the new account for £50 but it won't arrive in time to reduce my next dd for quarter 1st Oct to 30th Dec so I will have to pay the £75 and get £50 back on my NEXT bill.
I am not happy but as long as the credit note arrives then I will be slightly pacified as I will have PROOF they owe me £50. And if I receive a notice they are taking £75 for my NEXT bill then I will be cancelling the dd and they will be getting another angry call from me.
It is lucky that I can afford to be short this £50 but i know some people can't and I wonder how they help them!!Kavanne

Do the bills have the same account number ? if you have one with prefix GB then thats your phone and is for telephone only. if the other bills start with two letters eg ne or wn or nd (there are more) but not GB then its a broadband bill if the 8 numbers after th 2 letters (not starting GB_ are different then you are being billed twice.just call cs and shut down the account thats not active. because its broadband you need to call customer options on 0800800030 to do this.0

No I have 2 account numbers. I don't know why I don't just have the same. It's ridiculous. They both start ST and are both for broadband.
The man I called on 0800800150 did sort it out for me.Kavanne
