You'll probably find that their car was also seized and crushed.0 -
it is a joke, of course if everyone had no insurance it would be total carnage.
The punishment should always fit the crime, stop their benefits or whatever.

Not anymore. The fine structure changed as of yesterday and it's income related so unless you're unemployed, you'll be paying more.
In addition to that, the paper doesn't mention the fact that your car is seized and if you can't provide proof of insurance within 14 days, it's crushed.
So whilst you may get a £100 fine in court, you've also lost your car. In addition to that, if you get a ban and are found driving, you will go to prison. Also when you finally do grow a brain and wake up, you'll find £800 is more likely to be a monthly payment than an annual quote.
Oh and if you were to hit me as an uninsured driver, I'd use the £20,000 legal cover I'd paid as an insured driver to sue you out of your house and all your posessions to cover the settlement.
If you think driving without insurance is OK, you'll have no problem with us driving 44 tonne artics around without it either then? It'd save hauliers £10,000's a year.
As you grow older and build up a decent accident free record, it will get cheaper. At the age of 36, I've just been quoted £207 fully comp for an 04 plate 2L Mondeo which, with cashback through Quidco, brings it down to £162.0 -
The law is still ludicrous on uninsured driving.
Even though new fines are income based, if you don't disclose your income it will be assumed £350/week or similar. Most uninsured drivers don't pay tax anyway so, they will continue to enjoy driving uninsured.
There are loopholes using which a friend can drive out the confiscated cars. Most uninsured drivers drive cheap cars anyway.
Even if you sue someone for £20,000 or even 20 million pounds, court might give a verdict that he will pay you back at the rate of £1/week. Now go figure.
Ever heard uninsured drivers went to prison? Firstly, there is not enough space. Then even if they will go there, they will be provided play station on tax payers money along with free gym, food etc. etc.
Driving ban is most ridiculous thing. Those who drive uninsured, will continue driving while under ban. They are reckless in the first place, so nothing deters them.
NB: I'm not condoning driving without insurance BUT describing the reality.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

This loophole has been closed. The Police will now not release the car to someone where the only cover would be under a 'driving other cars' clause; they will only release the car once they see proof that that particular vehicle is insured in its own right.0 -

My friend lives in Australia and does not pay insurance as such. It is included in his car tax, so at the basic level he would buy a tax disc for a certain amount with gives him 3rd party insurance along with road tax.
A far better way of doing things imo.0
