Howdens do solid wood with decent width at a good price but it's down to negotiation with them as well.

No-one advertises their best price. The fact that they were advertising 20% off means very little when you can kock them down past that. If they weren't reducing it at all you should still be able to knock them right down. They must know what their margins are - that's what they're working on when you start haggling, not the % discount that they advertise.

  • Fact: Parawood is a Hardwood

Fact: Parawood is as durable as Oak

    Fact: Parawood is hardwearing

Fact: Parawood has less shrinkage than most wood floors

Fact: It does not ''discolour'' easily

Look in the Wikipedia for more info or take my word for it that it better value than jumping on any bandwagon. People should only post responses when they know what theyre talking about

    Fact: Parawood is environmentally friendly

You should take a tip from parawood then as you're virtually radioactive!

Chill out! The way you're talking you'd think you were parawood itself  You can debate an issue without being abrasive.

  • To answer the other initial question "what wood floor?", you might want to have a look at http://www.jgpwoodfloors.com
Answer a few brief multiple choice questions and the site will suggest which type of hardwood best suits your requirements.

Just found this thread as I was looking up parawood as a flooring. I've got a dining table made out of this and it's a great wood to make stuff out of.

£14.99 from Topps tiles looks crap in the picture but it's actually quite nice. The bloke in the shop told me they weren't getting any more (wanted us to buy there and then) then the other assistant told us we could get as much as we wanted! If anyone one manages to haggle them down on this price i'd love to know
  • I have been using parawood solid wood flooring on my rental flats for a few years now and i think it is great....it gets alot of abuse from tenants and still its looks good.....

Is engineered wood where just the top layer of the plank is solid wood? or am I thinking of something else?

Just realised this is a really old thread ... sorry!

Yes and much better long tem than solid wood.

Don't be. The guy who posted above you has resurrected another ancient thread about parawood as well and he's only made two posts. ;) One might be forgiven for thinking he has a vested interest!!

    Cheers

  • I had parawood flooring laid in my lounge, dinning room and hall, mid June and within weeks its showing terrible deep marks and scratches. Bearing in mind I dont have small children running around, nor am I taking tango lessons. I bought the flooring as it claimed to be 'durable'. Its not durable. Suitable for a loft space maybe but not a space that is used a lot. B&Q sent and independant inspector and whilst he was here, he said "hm its almost like its too soft", then wrote different on the report! Im not happy, it cost almost £1000 and already, within weeks looks awful. Im in process of researching my rights. So think carefully before selecting parawood!
