Suggestion: Customise the 'new posts' button.

I live off this button on most forums, but most forums are nowhere near as busy as this one!

It would be great if I could return 'new posts', but only within certain forums.. I personally have no interest in 'I won I won' or other competitions, and feel these make up at least 20-30% of the topics found within the 'new posts'

I could be more helpful in replying sooner if there wasn't such a lot to look through!

At a push you just add the forum ID for the one you are interested in to the url New Posts link.

For example, to search for new posts on this board then the url would be modified to add the &f=50 on the end:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.html?do=getnew&f=50

Only seems to work for single boards through (unless I'm missing the correct syntax).

EDIT: Removed first option since it required search terms to work.

Just found this as I was coming onto the board to suggest exactly the same thing...

Under User CP there should be a "customise search" option which allows you to specify the forums you wish to have results returned from in the new posts...

Users benefit from having more desired results returned and also having written responses faster (as nj suggests)

I'd have also thought this extra filtering would cause faster response from the database and thus improved performance for everyone...

edit: maybe "search preferences" would be a better name, having thought about it. :)
