20 litres is 4.4 gallons, so you're getting 31 mpg - doesn't sound like a lot for an oil-burner. Should be similar in a 2ltr petrol, providing you are easy on the throttle..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
why not get something slightly smaller with much more mpg ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

No-one can answer your question unless you are more specific. A 2.0 16v engine in a big 4x4 will use a lot more fuel than a similar engine in a lighter more aerodynamic car like a smallish hatchback. A 2.0l eniogne from one manufacturer may be more economical than a similar sized one from a second manufacturer.
I'd also agree with Gunjack the MOPG you're getting at the moment is pretty poor for a diesel. I drive an Octavia 1.9TDi and get at least 47mpg average and up to 55mpg on a long run.
If you go to https://www.whatcar.co.uk you can find the fuel consumption figures for whatever cars you are acutally interested in and compare them. It's my problem, it's my problem

2.0 16v drinks fuel..
My 10 year old 1.6 16v isn't the most efficient and I still get 10miles per litre... (200 for 20litres)
To get 140miles out of a diesel, I assume it's rather old and/or you drive with a very heavy right foot.
As the above post suggests, whatcar.co.uk is very factual. It also depends on how you look after the car, tyre pressures, servicing, driving economically.0 -

You need to learn to drive. I have a 2L diesel Mondeo and manage nearly double that MPG.0 -
My 2.7D gives me 40mpg+++ on long journeys 100miles+ and 35ish driving from home to work 18miles a day through the city -even got up to 50mpg during a trip to franceJust A Grumpy old Jedi0
