I've started to forget what the point of this thread is too. We're just going around in circles with pointless discussion for the sake of discussion. If you're not hapyp with a review on dooyoo, get dooyoo to deal with it.

Honestly, MSE is not a self-appointed guardian of Dooyoo - we do not have any power over it and will not change anybody's mind.

Honestly, MSE is not a self-appointed guardian of Dooyoo - we do not have any power over it and will not change anybody's mind.

I am reminded of a song (Holly Near I think) which was, admittedly, about far more important issues than this one, in the great scheme of things. One of the lines went something like "foolish people who do nothing because there is nothing one can do."

Because it's unlikely minds can be changed, we should stop trying to do so? Because Dooyoo are responsible for allowing (or otherwise) abuse or questionable behaviour we should ignore it?

Dooyoo has a lot of members, and a lot of reviews, and, like any other company (particularly online) a fixed resource to vet its members and community. It therefore depends on the goodwill and, indeed vigilance of the community to help self-police. This is not dissimilar to 'real world' - there isn't a policeman in every home, nor in every block. Not everyone's taxes get audited, and not every speed camera has film and not every driver gets stopped and breathalised. We do admonish people not to drink and drive, we pay our taxes, and mostly behave within the law because it's the right thing to do, because society expects us to, because we're afraid of getting caught, and because the laws/rules are there for the benefit of the whole community (speeding kills, we need taxes to support social programmes, drink driving also kills etc).

When a few people consistantly behave contrary to those rules, they affect the majority who comply. Now, I am definitely NOT saying that anyone here speeds or drives under the influence or avoids taxes, or cheats on dooyoo. I'm just pointing out that it's important to stand up, sometimes, for the rules.

If you think the rules (or laws) are unfair, then there are ways of protesting or even helping to get them changed, but again, it is necessary that you speak up.

Of course dooyoo (and other review sites) is a hobby (albeit one that pays pennies). This isn't world changing stuff. But it still behooves us all to treat dooyoo with the same respect we'd like to be afforded. If we want paying by dooyoo, we need to earn that.

I don't think that's too much to ask.

Jeez matty, it's only Dooyoo not the Holocaust.

In fact, when it comes to certain worldly subjects I'm often reminded of the poem First They Came. This is NOT one of those situations.

Yes lets protest about the unfairness on the world, as hard as you try churners on Dooyoo will never comapre to the poverty and injustice in the world.

If you're concerned you need to contact Dooyooo but this thread needs to move on. We jsut seem to go around and around in circles protesting agaisnt churners and poorly written reviews - that's what your rating on Dooyoo is for.

This thread needs to stay positive and discuss how we can improve our reviews, help in writing reviews, etc. not repeatedly crying over spilt milk.

Without wishing to sound funny, really, the best place to do that is on dooyoo itself (through feedback and contacting guides or other's whom you respect) or on one of the opinion forums where advice can be freely given and no one minds going over and over minutiae.

This thread has gotten long and, yes, to a degree, rather circular but, withut going back through it (and I'm sure if I did then I'd be proven slightly wrong) but I honestly can't think of that many posts that have asked for the kind of advice that you think this thread should be discussing.

We've had posts asking about "minimum words"; we had a few about payment; I know on here and through PMs I've answered an awful lot of questions about locked opinions (invariably all bar one of the people who asked/were worried turned out to have broken the rules as I recall (knowingly or not)). We've had a few posts of the "I'm worried this won't scrape through the quality checks" type. I honestly don't recall very much, if anything, asking about how to improve opinions. We did have some good observation about lack of opinion in the pieces submitted but I suspect those that could have benefitted from thinking those ideas through will have missed the point.

I'd be happy if this stayed positive but, to be totally honest, I fear it won't and I also fear it's not the best place for specific advice and generic advice is dealt with far better elsewhere (including barongreenback's excellent guide on here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=17603799#post17603799 which should have had more comment on than it has).

As a parting thought I'll point you to something I posted here on another thread:

I do become exasperated when I see people taking advantage of situations in an extreme manner. The point of consumer revenge was, surely a good one - take those businesses that we have no choice but to interact with and try to ensure as fair a treatment as possible. Thus reclaming bank charges, driving down utility costs, getting the best insurance deals were and are all "legitimate" targets. Activities such as opinion writing are not the same though. Yes, the business model means that the companies benefit from us poor saps who write for them, but we do so of our own free will. We have a choice. It's not exploitation - we can leave. There really is nothing to avenge. If we don't like it, we don't do it. If you seek "consumer revenge" on companies such as these then remember, it's not just the company you hurt but those who are happy to give of their time and efforts for the small recompense on offer (or even, altruistically, to help other consumers (sound familar?)).

I'm not sure that anyone was implying "illegal" activity on opinion sites (save, perhaps for a reminder that the earnings should be declared) but I'd beg anyone who wants to "bleed the system dry" or incite others to do so, to have a little regard for those who will get hurt on the way.

It's not just a problem with certain individuals coming from MSE, there are other sources too. Hopfully that's as personal as it gets.

For those of you actually reading this here's a bit of food for thought: has it occurred to you that sites such as dooyoo actually further the consumer's cause. MSE seeks to promote the rights of consumers and get a better deal. Dooyoo allows you to promote that which you love and that which you hate - ultimately, if it's used properly, dooyoo too ensures a fairer deal for consumers who (like in the "what to buy/not to buy from Lidl/Aldi" thread) will know what's good and what's not; what delivers value and what should be avoided; who gives the best service and who the worst. However, if the site becomes flooded with rubbish then the whole value is lost and, ultimately, not only does the site suffer (and so what, it's only a business) but consumers suffer too.

    *removes rose-tinted glasses* :p
  • cmh4135 is right you know, especially about my thread:rotfl:

No, seriously. The best way to look at dooyoo is as a hobby as well as a money making resource and it is definitely a good place to share advice on companies and as such get a better deal for consumers. I for one have been warded off shopping websites that have ripped people off and similarly discovered some absolute bargains as a result of dooyoo. If you can manage to marry MSE and dooyoo as a resource then it should be almost impossible to get ripped off!

I'm not disputed the value of either MSE or Dooyoo baron, I am, like many others, getting a bit tired of the obsessive beating to death of the the same stuff - churners and quality of content.

BTW, what topics do people most like reviewing and why? For instance I love reviewing software and computers but stay away from mobiles as I can never nevr do justice the massive amount of features a mobile phone has - I did one but I completely forgot to mention what it was like to make phone calls! :D

  • LOL. Are you still in denial about the MSE clicking cartel? Behave yourself. The previous thread was full of people swapping usernames and promises of reads before the mods stepped in. There's not even any interpretation involved here. It is fact, pure and simple.

I am in denial about nothing thanks - the so-called "MSE clicking cartel" is mythical because its your interpetation of a situation that occurred on a now locked thread. And its an interpretation and myth you personally state as fact when in truth its merely how you viewed it in your opinion.

Until you can prove categorically that Dooyoo removed people who were merely discussing something, in ignorance I admit, for being part of a clicking cartel, it is NOT fact

For those who are unaware, a few people who at the time were new to Dooyoo, listed their Dooyoo user names on the thread and suggested we add each othere to their Circle of Friends. It was however quickly pointed out that this might be construed as a clicking cartel, and as a result I did not add any names to my Circle of Friends. Many others stated on that thread that they hadn't done so either - and I believe they were being truthful.

The only MSE clicking cartel that I can see is the one where you and a few of your mates constantly thank each other for saying the same thing repeatedly on this thread :p

I am bowing out of this now - I have explained how I feel to the newer people who have every right to join Dooyoo and post reviews.

If they post reviews that are substandard then they don't deserve to be paid. If Dooyoo feel the standard is high enough then good luck to them.

At the end of the day however this thread is for advice and help on Dooyoo, not the perpetuation of a "them and us" mentality.

I can review anything nowadays but find books and films come easiest. I tend to find it easy to say whether I liked or hated a film than describe what a Mars bar tastes like (people who do this are geniuses IMO). Your phone example is a good example of why peer review is so weird. I would not rate your review down for not including calls for example. For me most modern phones are not really about the calls. Sony concentrate on camera or walkman for example. I would be more interested in the features although some people would rate down for not including how it works as a phone I am not bothered. Dial, green button, red button. Why include it?

I am trying to think if there is any category I have not tackled and I think the only thing I have not tried is reviewing aftershave as like food, describing smell without sounding like Jilly Goolden??? is impossible for me! Music reviews are often a cause of contention too. Many people hate track by track CD reviews but other people insist on knowing something about every track! Madness to me but each to their own.

Definitely a film and book review junkie me though!

I have just signed up to DooYoo and written a couple of reviews of items I have recently purchased and am happy with.

How do you get items that are not already listed added though? I have a fridge freezer that isn't featured that has been brilliant and would love to add a review.

    Thanks
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

If you go to "My Account" you will see an area called "Communications Centre".

In there you will see a suggestions area and you fill in the information there. You need to have a website URL to show Dooyoo the product and also a link to a picture if possible.
