Question about EON ONLINE
Hi, if you use Eon Online can you answer a question please?
Under "your account history" my history says:
01 Aug 08 CR 73.30 CR
01 Jul 08 23.30 CR
25 Jun 08 21.70
09 Jun 08 2.12
So does the CR mean that I owe them or that they owe me? In May/June when I first moved into my present place my bills shot up thanks to econ7 water coming on every night and a dodgy emersion heater that was melting (unbeknown to me at the time). Now I have a new emersion heater and a hardwired switch so I just turn the hot water on every other day for a few hours.
I expected my bill to come down but not wind up this much in credit. Is this right? Or am I being thick and the CR is their way of saying I should "credit them" or something?

Normally it means you are in credit unless you are reading your direct debit instalments but from the list you have put down I would say you are in credit. :j0

Hi, it does not mean you are in credit as you have not been billed yet. It is simply showing the payments made on the account. You can only find out whether you are in credit or debit when your account has been billed.0

If you're saying about "not being billed yet" do you mean for August? Should I then imagine I am presently £23 in credit and wait and see what August holds?

It looks as if you are on £50 monthly direct debit. It's good to build up a credit balance in summer because we use/spend more in winter. Bills are quarterly so every month when the direct debit goes in you build up a credit balance and then in the third month Eon present a bill and the balance comes down. Remember your quarterly bills in summer will be much lower than those in winter. I think we'll all be wearing 2 jumpers this winter with the cost of energy as it is. Take care.

I don't use more electric in the winter no, I just had this argument with Eon after they tried to raise my DD from £45pm to £60pm. I don't use heating - none at all. I expect to pay a tiny increase for extra light in winter and not a penny more!0 -

Sometimes energy supplier are in a no win situation regarding direct debits.0 -
As Geoff says it is a good idea to build up credit during the summer to compensate for winter. But working for an energy company taking calls on the billing line there are a huge amount of customers who call in quite irate at the fact that the credit is in the energy companies bank and not their own and ask for a refund. Usually those same customers call back during the winter disgusted when they are informed that that their DD payment has to increase dramatically. This would not have happened or at least to not an extent if they had just left things as they were.
Sometimes energy supplier are in a no win situation regarding direct debits.
I'd be interested to know how much credit is is allowed to build up before you automatically get a refund. I remember years ago getting one from BT because my credit amount had reached a certain multiple of my monthly payments which then triggered the refund.
Nowadays I get the impression that if a large amount of credit builds up the companies will do nothing to give it back unless you ask for it explicitly.
I recently asked for one from Eon (and will get it hopefully in the next couple of days) and at the same time they reduced my monthly payment by 20% because I had been paying too much. The credit which had built up was 2.8 times my monthly payment.0 -
@JayMT - I've never had an automatic refund. At one point when I was with nPower at a previous property, I was in credit on my dual-fuel to the combined total of £240, and still had to contact them to get it back. I'd reckon anything over £50 electric and £100 gas would be better off reclaimed and earning interest in your bank account, not theirs.Where there's a will, there's a way to get something cheaper from somewhere else!!0

I DO NOT USE HEATING. NONE. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.
Why do people find this so hard to believe? Maybe you grew up in a nicer place than me but I have never had heating and I don't see the point in getting accustomed to something I have never really known.
So why do you assume I would need a credit balance to cover me for the winter? Why are you also attacking me like I'm responsible for what other people do or don't do? I couldn't care less what other customers do. I don't use heating, therefore I don't expect to have a credit balance stored for Winter.
I never said a bloody word about a refund either.0
