Proportion of buyers who leave feedback

Hi all

I'm moving house so had a massive clearout, resulting in me listing about 50 items on ebay. The auctions all finished a couple of weeks ago and I posted everything the next day.

I have received feedback for about half the stuff (all positive) but have heard nothing about the other items. I get annoyed when people ask me for feedback so wouldn't do that but I am curious to know if the buyers are happy enough with the items.

I have no intention of emailing or making contact via ebay but a feedback rate of 50% seems very low. These are my first listings since the feedback changes so I wondered if someone who is more experienced in selling could advise whether this is normal and just a consequence of the new system.

Thanks

Kerry

  • I wouldn't say that I am experienced - I've been selling for the past 4 weeks - but feedback is never guaranteed I'm afraid :(
I always state in my listings that feedback is returned once received, which seems to appeal to the buyer.
However, if there were any worries from their point of view about the products you sent them, I'm sure you would have heard from them, and the same goes for any missing items etc.

    68-78% is my guess.
  • Thanks for replying.

I know feedback isn't everything and I would have probably heard by now if any items hadn't turned up, etc. I was just curious about whether the number of people leaving feedback had fallen dramatically since the changes.

I do think that the changes have made the number of people who leave feedback drop. There are a lot of changes on Ebay I wish they didn't make, but what can you do right?

You will get a better feedback return rate if you leave feedback first.

True, but there are shady people out there who wait until you leave good feedback only to leave a negative. It's sad there are people out there like that, but it happens.

I sold about 30 items in June after the changes, and had a 100% hit rate with feedback, although some people took a few weeks to leave it.

In July I probably sold about 20 things and only received feedback for about 50%. Maybe everyone's gone on holiday and they can't be bothered.

  • My buyers who have yet to leave feedback all seem to have a feedback themselves between 15 and 40. I guess they are infrequent users and don't see it as a matter of great importance.

When I don't get feedback left I send the buyer a friendly message asking if they had recieved the item, asking if it was ok and asking them to leave feedback accordingly.
Now I print off a "with compliments" slip and pop it in with the item to remind them to leave feedback, becasue they could forget where the item came from if, like me - they buy lots of stuff from ebay.
