By the way charging a phone costs only a penny or two but if you leave the charger plugged in and switched on at the wall this will cost you all the time, 24/7Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......

Hot linking is when you just use the address of an image hosted elsewhere on the web to display. This is fine when it's your site but to take it without asking is not very friendly as serving all the people loading the image costs money. I think if a webmaster noticed a spike in traffic loading one image they could act significantly faster than that if they had the inclination.
