Hi
think you have to call them to get this service
I had a quick scoot around the site and forund thisOur Nuisance Call Bureau (NCB) will help and guide you.
If you have been a victim of a nuisance and/or malicious
phone call, just call our free phone number and ask for the
NCB on 0800 953 3333. There’s more on info on malicious
calls at the end of this section. If you’ve been troubled by calls where the phone rings
but on answering there is no one there, you might want to
register your number with the Silent Call Guard Service by
calling 0870 4443969.

What you need is Anonymous Caller Rejection - this stops withheld calls getting to you, the caller hears a message to redial without withholding their number. There is a monthly cost for this, plus many local area authorities, police etc withhold their number so you won't get their calls either, the service can only block withheld numbers and not numbers from networks that don't (unable) to transmit numbers.

ACR costs £2.50 per month - used to be £1 per month many years back. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Problem with doing this - unless obviously for health / safety reasons - is you might want the call? Only say this coz today I've been trying to get hold of someone to offer them a job and as I'm calling via a switchboard it won't go through. Tried the 'put a code in first & your number will be revealed' thingie I found (on here somewhere?) but still didn't allow it. Dedicated as I am to my work I refuse to use my personal mobile to call - it'd be setting a bad precedence.
So..........someone's jobless now coz they had this on their phone! (And before anyone asks that's the only contact method I had!)

Yeah, it does stop important calls too, could be police, hospital, council etc etc.
Myself I'd write to the person and say, sadly we have had to offer the job to someone else as due to you having ACR on your phone line we were unable to contact you. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... thanks all its to stop all the unwanted do you want to buy this or that calls.. we ex directory but they still getting through..Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

This might seem a little crazy but have you thought how your phone number is made up and how your number is dialled?
Your phone number is made up of digits and even if a human was to dial the number, it would have to press digits on the phone.
Do you really think because you are xDQ (even if both not in the book or on the 118) that all of a sudden peoples hands are then unable to dial certain sequences of numbers?
If I wanted to and had the time, I could manually dial every single combination of digits and get through to people on their phone number, with around 50% of people being xDQ I'm going to get 50% of people who are xDQ.
I don't need to look in a phone book or phone a DQ service to find (for example) whether 0123 456 7890 is xDQ or not also just because for example if it was xDQ - what is there physically stopping me dialling it? Do my hands suddenly get tied behind my back, do my fingers turn to jelly?
All being xDQ means is people won't find you in the phone book or on the 118 service (unless you ask for it to be just on 118). It doesn't mean people can't dial the number.
You could try dialling numbers a few digits different to your own, I wonder how many of them are xDQ and I wonder how many of them you could physically dial?
Now image that a human isn't dialling, but a computer is, they simply either go through the list of numbers sequcencially or randomly.

Hi Rose,
We're with Virgin and despite being on the TPS list, were still receiving the occasional unwanted marketing call.
After reading on another forum about keying in code *65 to activate (and#65 to de-activate), we have stopped receiving calls from withheld numbers. Maybe just a coincidence, but it's worth a try!!!0
