Broadband installation £69 .. Sky failed to mention!

Options
I am switching over from virgin phone, tv and broadband to the same with sky.
I was very thorough with costs before i commited and i even said, "so bt charge £112 to reinstall me and you refund that?" reply, "yes " .

"and all i pay is bt line rental and £16 for tv, & broadband "
"yes, thats all"

So i have done all the changing over and they have sprung a £69 installation fee for broadband on me. Anything i cab do?
I asked for my phone call to be looked at as i was not told this and i was very clear about and other costs and told no.They said they had not recorded it(convenient!)

Can i do anything now or have i just got to cough up?

2 Standard set-up:Standard set up is £30 for new Sky TV customers joining with a Sky+ or Sky+ HD box or Sky Broadband and Sky Talk (otherwise £60).
Standard set-up for existing customers taking any Sky box and combination of Sky services is £60, or for existing customers taking Sky Broadband without another Sky box: Base - £75; Mid & Connect - £50; Max - £25 or if you already have or take Sky Talk: Base - £50; Mid & Connect - £25; Max-£0'
Dunno where you stand with that as its stated in the terms.

Are you sure its not £60 install?
The one off charges are in quite small print on the website, I assume you are having the "Free Dish, Standard Set Top Box, and 2Mbps Free Broadband, and the single entertainment mix at £16/month (Going up to £17 in September).
I'm surprised that they didn't take the £60 off you at the time of ordering, they did with me when I added broadband to my package.

    Mandles,

Do I take it then if BT reinstall the line you pay for your phone calls to BT?

I am with Virgin and wanted to change over to the Sky Package and they told me the same about repaying the £112 to BT, but when they checked my area they said there was no space on the exchange and that they could not offer me the standard service so it would cost me extra, I think about £17 extra.

Can anyone explain what they mean by no space on the exchange????

Either there's physically no room in the exchange for Sky's equipment or if your exchange is already unbundled no free holes to stick your wire into.
See this for an enticing glimpse round an exchange and the various lumps of kit that's used (if there's room).
Sky use SMPF (Shared Metallic Path Facilities), there's a pic there of a LLU handover frame similar to what they might need and also MSANs so quite a fair bit of stuff.

Sounds like their Set Up Fee: http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts/skytv/pricesandpackages

BT standard connection charge is £124.99,and £70 if you cancel and move line rental to Sky straight away.

If your line rental is remaining with BT and your just placing your calls etc through Sky this is worth reading :

Ill just pay up i think . Really naughty. Funny, when i rung BT , they said be ready for sky being more than i thought as a lot of customers experience this.

So here is a run down of anyone with cable of how much it all costs to switch to sky phone, broadband & 1 variety pack on sky (quite a few channels like hallmark, sky one etc & lost is back the end of this month!)

BT line up costs up to £124 (but you can get it back from SKY by sending them an invoice / bill with this amount on it from BT)

£30 set up fee paid to sky immediately

£17 a month for whole tv,phone, broadband package

£69!! broadband insatllation fee from sky (depends who you speak to whether you pay or not and if you get it all done at once)

£12 monthly line rental BT (free evenings and weekends)(charging me £33 a month as they are estimating that this is how much i am going to use!! trying not to use it at all)

and as you cant do it all at once virgin are still charging you at this time.

A real pain and a lot of money. If you do do it may i suggest really using the sky on demand(Free ones) a load before you leave to really get your moneys worth. I watched life on mars as i never saw it first time around.

Good luck if you do switch!

Does anyone know what they are doing?!!!!

I telephoned the other day to get it installed and was told i had to pay £69 . I argued that i didn't and they said i did. They called back after contacting team leader and said yes you do have to pay it. I then said i havent got the money so i will leave it for now.
I waited for your replies and now have just rung, ready to pay £69 and woman said (i did not even ask) you don't have to pay that though as you have just had the sky box installed 7 days ago!
So i didn't have to pay after all.

Don't knock it, if the agent has made a mistake then just move on quickly before they realise ;)

Ring BT and tell them you want to go on Monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit - they can do this, but don't publicise it.
Then you will just get a monthly bill for what you've actually used, none of this estimating and keeping your (usually excess payment) money nice and safe in their account.

Thank you very much. Just done that . I rung about that too. They DO keep that very quiet!
