Hey all,

It was about 10 months ago that I decided to follow in the footsteps of the rest of you and haggle out a new contract with orange, and at the time I was quite pleased with myself as I got a new contract 2 months early, new phone and 500 mins for £25 a month.

Today I had a phone call from 3, the usual sales patter that I would normally hang up on within 8 secs of realising who they were but this time they offered me a nokia 6880, 750mins, 150 texts, free insurance and that they would buy me out of my orange contract for £20 a month.

I asked if he could give me some time to think about it and phone me back in a few days but he seemed reluctant to do that. I phoned orange straight away to reduce my plan to the minimum £15 a month and ask for my code to port the number to a new network. I told them about the deal I was offered and told them it was £17.50 a month.

To cut this long story short, it didnt work. last time I did this they put me on hold and the next thing I knew I was being offered my new toy but this time she put me on hold only to tell me that they couldn't match that deal and that I can buy my way out any time after the 8th of Nov when my tarriff reduces to the minimum.

Any suggestions? I dont have the contact number for 3 to get back in touch about the deal they were offereing and I have now wrecked the deal that I had managed to get from orange.

I should mention that my average bill each month is about £50.

Any advice much appreciated.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.

I don't know how you can contact 3 about this. They have various telesales agent companies in India, and you may not know which one you spoke to. (I've been rung up as a wrong number for someone else, a 4 for a 9, and already have a contract).

Can you contact Orange and put your contract back up to the same tariff as before, and then see what is available? Maybe you sounded too decisive for them to argue the first time.

You should phone Orange again and ask to speak to the Retentions Team, they have more authority for giving discounts than the normal customer service advisors on 150
