Sorry if this has been discussed on the other 150 pages but I've just tried to take out petplan insurance for my pup and notice it doesn't cover working from home ? I could understand this if I had an aggressive guarding dog and was bringing clients into a house, but admin work from home ? With my pup asleep on my feet. Well I could trip over him I suppose !0

Have a look at Virgin Money. Pet Plan - for the cheapest plan wanted £24 a month - for our pedigree Blue Staff we pay £16 a month, for our staff x it is £14 a month and this is for a 'for life' policy called Accident and Illness Extra. It is up to £6000 per condition for the dogs life. It does not seem to be one that is mentioned a lot but we have been with them for years and they have always paid up within a few weeks.
Our diabetic cat was covered for about 6 years and there was never an issue with payment and the policy amount, although it got higher as she got older, never exceeded what we was paid out each year by the claim: http://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/pet-insurance/covered.jsp0 -

What is wrong with your dog? this will make the difference. If this is a one off thing then just get an extra years cover. If this is a lifetime condition (such as hip dysplacia (sp?)) then I would recommend you get a lifetime policy. They are pricey with Pet Plan, that is the only thing.
Do not let the cover lapse and make sure they have registered your details. Call them on Monday and make sure your policy details are on their computer and tell them now you want to continue the cover.
We had a nightmare with them as our details were not registered, pup sniffed up a grass seed and it was a real headache to get sorted, the policy lapsed on the Saturday and her op was due for the Monday and I tried to get continuation cover but they did not have the details of her.
One thing to note: each policy - although a continuation - will have a different number so they WILL take 2 excesses for the treatment. Sneaky so and so's!! I think they took £160 off the claim but what they paid out meant we got a years 'free' cover. if that makes sense.0 -
many thanks blue monkey, it is a one off thing we think got to take him back tommorrow for tests ect. he has a lump at the top of his abdoman the vet said. they think he may have swollowed something he shouldnt have as he hasnt been able to keep food down the last 48 hrs hopefully all will be ok , xxxx(#80 save 12k in 2015) aim £10,000make £10 a day in 2015 £261/£4000emergency fund aim £100/£1000£1 a day for xmas 2015 £0/£365NSD feb 0/16feb GC £0/£1200

I would certiainly get enough cover for this condition and for any follow up appointments YM. If the amount you want to claim back is 2k I'd go for a bit more than the basic policy, it'll pay for itself tbh. Then change when the year is up. Again, look at the Virgin Money one I mentioned, their prices seem far better for the cover that you get. I did a lot of shopping around but went to VM as the cat was with them. They never seem to come up on comparison websites.
Is he prone to eating stuff she shouldn't?? Mind you. He's a lab, I guess I do not need to ask that.0 -

I'd just been reading their website as well and I'm a bit shocked that they have issues about working from home!
They did say that you can give them a call and talk about it and they might still be able to insure you.
I guess they may be worried that the animal is used as a guard dog / guard cat / guard horse / killer rabbit :rotfl: and therefore the "pet" is actually a working animal and perhaps different covers apply.0 -
Ah, I have sussed the working from home bit - maybe. Say you have a client visit and the dog bites them. The reason for that person being in your home would be work related so they will not pay for this.
How is it worded? I can't see it. I never even noticed it when I was with them and i work from home.0 -
I have two dogs currently insured with Argos, they have up to £7,000 per year for life cover, just renewed policy for £213 for the spinger (4yr old), I think my other dog was £160 (she was 2months old when policy started mix breed) Not sure of all t&c's off the top of my head. However when our springer spaniel was less than a year old he developed an illness and we thought for sure we were going to lose him, but as we had such good insurance, he was sent to a specialist vets and after 5 days of tests they managed to find out what was wrong with him. Meningitis was diagnosed after about £3,000 worth of tests and ongoing treatment for a few months. He is now a happy healthy 4 year old.
Argos were fab, just filled out the forms, money received within fortnight, no questions asked. He even needed emergency treatment a year later for an accident at a diff vets and again all paid no problem. Argos have always been really helpful and I couldn't recOmmend them enough and they were also the cheapest for the level of cover. Hope that helps someone.0
