new contract

Hi,

My o2 contract ends 30 Nov so really i should start cancelling my existing contract. However i need to discuss the following;

If i decide to upgrade, what are the chances o2 will offer me a 12 mth contract rather than an 18mth one. Also as I am currently on leisure plus tariff, do get a decent phone i.e. sony Ericsson k700i or something along the lines, would the phone be free?

the main reason why I am on o2 is because i make lots of landline and 0870/0845 calls. does anyone know if Vodaphone charge 0870/0845 call or do they come out your free minutes?

Another option is to cancel the phone and then later when there is a decent deal such as Cashback, half price line rental etc. what do you guys think?

I am in a similar situation with orange as I want to upgrade my phone to the Samsung D600 but I went to the orange shop and they want £100 for me to upgrade which is a joke as I can start a new contract and get the phone for free. I have phoned the cancellation line and the ask the usual question "how come you are cancelling" so I tell them I won't be paying for an upgrade so the person told me to phone back this week when they get stock in and they can knock the price down, if I am not offered the phone for free then I will go to O2 as they have the phone for free plus a free bluetooth headset and extra minutes etc.

If they want to keep your custom you will get something out of them, just tell them what you are after and see if the oblige and if not then ask them to cancel your contract

My experience last week with 02 (last week )

I was on an online tarriff ( 500 offpeak xnet mins and 500 textsfor £25 ). One week before contract expired i rang up and asked for a better deal. Imediately I was offered a motorola v3 on a 12 month contract,or no phone and £100 cash into my account. i declined saying I didnt use all the minutes and was looking for something cheaper. I was put through to retentions and immediately offered 300 xnet offpeak minutes and 500 texts for £10 per month, as well as the v3 or £100 cash. This suited me perfectly so i took it. Whole conversation took less than 5 minutes and the v3 arrived within days. It was a lot less hassle than I thought and it appears 02 are willing to offer a great deal to keep their customers at the moment.

    Hi Carly,

Sorry in advance for posting this twice...

Ok gave o2 a call on 0800 0288151 (thanks saynoto0870.com) im currently on the leisure time plus tariff (£20) and hardly ever got over my allowance. Also been on the contract for 11months now and requested a PAC off them. The guy (craig from retention dept) could only offer me £75 cash back and £10 off my current contract.

I told him i wanted to go on three and is expected to pay £15 month for 500 xnet mins and 500 text but he was unwilling to match this. I also wanted the k750i for free but he told me i would have to pay £89.99 for it. Does this mean in theory i could get the k750i for £14.99 and pay £10 a month for leisure time tariff on a 12mth contract?

no matter how many times the offer he was giving me was nowhere near my expected prices he just wouldnt take no for an answer and told me the PAc will be with you in two days and if i dont use it within 30days i would need to request another one. I might try my luck after lunch...

    Well Done!!

You are right O2 are pulling out all the stops in order to retain customers business!

Just hope it stays the same now that Telefonica own them!
  • they've told me they can no longer offer me any offer apart from the ones on their note system :(

    any advice?

Update: a rude retention CS told me ive requested the PAC code and there is nothing she can do. They do not seem interested in retaining me and basically asked me where i got all these discount 500 offers from etc and i told her from a reliable source. it basically turned out into a slagging phone call by me asking what will happen to o2 as they've been taken over by another company? will they still have a retention center etc and she just told me to get my facts right. I told her i just d/c and reconnect on o2 for a better deal and she said, you cant reconnect within 6mths. I swear you can because i did. Jesusssssss, she then told me she got other people to serve. *sigh* looks like im heading towards Vodaphone now. Does anyone know if 0854/0870 numbers are included in the free minutes?

Do remember that the Discount 500/750 tariff is generally for O2's HVC - High Value Customers or if your thinking of leaving to go to 3 - That is the key to getting this deal mentioning that your leaving to go to 3

The advisor has probably looked at your account and it decided that it won't be financially viable for O2 to offer you this tariff.

Please don't think i'm defending them i'm just stating the facts.

Why don't you call back, and ask the advisor if they would re consider as you've been really pleased with O2, the network, service etc etc
