It is too far. Sorry!
If you choose to stay in the city centre, Jurys Inn is very sclose to the tram link to Old Trafford. In fact, from Jurys, you can have a walk up Oxford Road to Big Hands bar and there will probably be an after gig party there
Or if you want walking distance, go for one of the following...

The brand new Ramada Salford Quays http://www.ramadasalfordquays.com/

I have a feeling that the big hotels will be fully booked for that evening or will be charging a premium as they do when a big event is on.
You could try for hotels in or near Altincham or Bury or Eccles and take the tram into town.0 -
Good thinking.
I've just checked on late rooms.
Jurys is showing for £83 but in the city centre, you can get the MacDonald, the newly refurbished and gorgeous Abode, Ramada Jarvis, Novotel and The Palace (stunning) all for under £100.
But the bargain of the day is The Place Apartments at Piccadilly for £50 on laterooms!

Just catch the tram at Piccadilly Gardens, then change at Pomona for Old Trafford or just walk from Pomona. It's a really easy trip by tram but a bit hectic after the gig.0 -
Why not get off at Old Trafford station which is nearer?0

jones mufc - i have tried some others but most hotels are now showing as full on that night...you suggested eccles, which is where the hotel i have booked is - the monton house hotel....if i dont find another would it be relatively easy on the tram then? if it is ok would i be able to find it ok as never been to manchester alone before - also do they run all night as dont know what time the concert would finish....
thank you to blue for all his suggestions - all now booked up thanks though
also - i booked my hotel months ago and got it for £29 which is a good deal looking at the prices now.....so if i have to pay taxi/tram, etc on top it wont matter...thanks0 -
ive managed to find a couple of other hotels available...
express by holiday inn, hyde road, gorton
premier inn, runger lane
sandown hotel, rochdale road...
would any of these be any better? i appreciate your help as am rubbish at things like this lol...
thanks0 -
If (as has been suggested) The Place apartments in Piccadilly are available for £50, then grab that booking! This is a bargain.
The gig is on a Sunday night, so this practically rules out any chance of getting the tram back using the Eccles line. You will have an adventure just getting on the Piccadilly tram, so changing to the Eccles line could leave you stranded. I'd forget this option and cancel your hotel, if a £50 city centre apartment is available.
The Place is a 2 minute stroll from Piccadilly train station, and on the city doorstep. Also you will comfortably get a tram from Piccadilly to get to the gig itself.
Another tip for LCC gigs, is that they open the big gate at the tram stop end, to let you out towards the end of the set. Get an idea online of the encore details they've been doing, and head towards this area to catch the last few songs. Then leg it out and get the tram into Manchester. On a Sunday night, you will appreciate this!0 -
Or stay in Altrincham which is right the end of the tram line, no changes required.
Eccles is too far away and unless they've changed it drastically, your journey back will need to be a tram, a change of tram and then a cab. And the Eccles line is notorious for being delayed/cancelled etc (or maybe that was just everytime I needed to use it? lol)
EDIT - 2 mins walk from the tram in Altrincham Cresta Court Hotel Altrincham and 8 days parking - https://www.cresta-court.co.uk - 0161 927 7272
Gimme a PM if you want anymore help about which are nearest trams etcIt aint over til I've done singing....0 -
thanks mancbrel but the place hotel was fully booked...thanks though
supermezzo....have managed to get a room at the cresta court like you said - also for £50 so thanks so much...any advice on how to get there when i get to the station from my national express coach would be appreciated and advice on how to then get to old trafford for the concert and back again after would be appreciated...thanks so much0 -
Is your coach stop in city centre then ie. chorlton st? Ask someone for directions to the tram (2 mins walk away) hop a tram to Altrincham (end of the line)www.metrolink.co.uk/. Walk out of the station, across the crossing, follow the road to the right, left before the lights down the side of the Railway Pub, follow road up the hill to the right, past The Victoria restaurant and The Roebuck pub and turn right at The Don chippy, across the lights and Cresta is on your right (even with my arthritis it's only a 5 minute walk - there is a shorter way cutting through the shops but not ideal if you don't know where you're going).
When you come out of the Cresta, reverse it to get the tram again to Old Trafford and follow the crowds I reckon, or if you're feeling really decadent and want a cab, Anytime 0161 928 1111 are good. If you want a decent pint of real ale in a proper but old fashioned pub, turn left out of the cresta door, cross the road turn left at The Don chippy and ask for a pint of Bombardier at the Old Roebuck.
I don't know what time the last tram is these days from city centre to Altrincham but http://www.gmpte.com/ should tell you what time the last bus is if you go into journey planner (sorry I'm off out for beer and late or I'd do it myself) but I think that the 263 runs til about 11 p.m. and goes straight to the tram/bus station where the tram would drop you off.
Hope some of that makes sense and helps - let me know if not!
Enjoy!It aint over til I've done singing....0
