Cheap source for sump plug washers?
Comments
-
who said halfrauds?? lol
The place I get my servicing stuff cheap is either my local trade parts supplier for stuff like filters and oil etc.
For smaller things like sump plug washers, bulbs, fuses etc.. i get them from autowirez. Never do i go to extortionate halfords any more.
You may even find somewhere cheaper. Just buy online.;)
Here is an example of halfords:
The windscreen washer pump went on my clio so i looked in halfords - £14 odd they wanted. I ended up getting them online from the store above for under £5 and its still working fine now. Halfords must make a killing.
Another good place you can try is consumabulbs.0 -

How about starting a thread as a sticky with links to cheap accessories and parts stores online.0

Problem is it's often a case of shopping around. In my experience for some things the dealers is cheapest. For other things, other places can be cheaper. All you can do is shop around.0 -

We have a sticky thread dedicated to car maintenance tips, I think we've mentioned in there about shopping around/using motor factors etc. as that's all you can really do to get the best deal.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I didn't expect this to be such a popular topic!
In answer to one question, I had to buy the proper Subaru washer to have one the right size. If I removed the one currently fitted to measure it then the gear oil would fall out
This is the ultimate goal of course, but preferably after the new washer is purchased!
To answer another question, the washer for the Subaru gearbox is indeed flat copper, the engine sump washers are domed and hollow crush washers though, not copper but a light bronze colour, but these are cheap enough from the dealers. (The dealers are as cheap as the motor factors for the filters and I prefer to stick with OE filters)
I don't have them to hand but I'll measure them later.
