Cheap source for sump plug washers?
Anyone know a source of cheap sump plug washers in (relative) bulk? I paid £1.50 each for gearbox drain plug washers from the Subaru dealer yesterday, and vowed not to do so again! I maintain several cars for my family so would need a small collection but not as diverse as the multi packs on ebay which I guess are intended for small time mechanics. Any ideas?

Any engineering shop. They're only copper washers, hardly bespoke.0

Halfrauds do them, dunno on cost, but it would be the sort of item that would be much cheaper with a Half' trade card, which can be picked up by joining certain internet car forums, or by turning up in Halfrauds in your overalls and blagging it.0

I've often found that a sump plug washer is included with an oil filter. Admittedly I don't run a Subaru.
Ask before you buy.0 -
Try any motor factors, shouldnt be any more than 20p or so, usually thrown in with the filter to be honest, cant remember ever being charged for one0

2 pence copper tap washers from local hardware shop. That's all they are.0

Aren't they actually shaped washers intended to be crushed to seal, rather than flat washers?
If straight copper washers are acceptable you can generally pick up a bag of 100 on ebay for under a tenner inc postage, although the sump washers I have are shaped not flat.0 -
Copper is a soft metal. Its just a flat copper washer. Tighten the plug and it crushes to seal.
Its not rocket science.0 -

Beware - ISTR a friend bought one of the kits of assorted 'copper washers' from Halfrauds - they turned out to be copper plated brass plain washers - not the same thing at all.0
