Dry cleaners = Ruined dress

Options
 I took a dress into the drycleaners, it is pure silk and they told me that they may not be able to get the stains out due to the dry cleaning instructions, fair enough i thought..... But went today to collect it, and it looks so bad! The colour has faded it is not as vibrant as it was, it looks so dull and lifeless, the dress is all silk which now looks like crepe paper, i meant to be wearing it on Friday for another wedding and am so furious. I dont know who to moan at, i got it from Monsoon and i have never spent so much on an outfit before, not even my wedding dress which i got from China :o but i knew as i has few wedding coming up this year and splashed out, i no longer have the reciept either, surely their dress's should last longer then 1 wear???? Or do i moan at the dry cleaners, but like they said they have followed Monsoons cleaning directions, i am confused never had to deal with anything like this before please help.

Thankyou Kate

u LEFT without complaining? DID U PAY? ask monsoon but im thinking the dry cleaners cocked up... if they couldnt get the stain out then the quality would still be silk... from it resembles crepe paper they 100% did summat wrong.

if u bought it on card try and use that statement. a lot of places refuse to accept it, but u can try.

Don't suppose you bought it on monsoons store card? Something tells\me they have additional insurance for loss or damage.

go back to the dry cleaners and complain, or ring them up. Are they a chain or an independant branch? because some of the larger chains have policies for this sort of thing. You should also explain that although you understood the stains may not be removed completely, you were not told that the dress stood a risk of changing colour and becoming like crepe paper!! Emphaise the fact it's for a wedding and was very expensive. I would have thought the dry cleaners would have insurance to cover themselves when this happens, so you may be able to claim under that

    Thanks everyone,

I was in the store for about 10mins moaning that it looks like S**T! All they said was they followed the instructions, and offered to redo it to see if it made a diffference, i know it wont most prob look even worse, but needed time to think, and get some advice! Going back tommorrow, and they said if its still the same they will give me a letter to give to monsoon, explaining they followed the instructions and this is what it now looks like. I brought it with cash, so no statements, just really annoyed and now dressless for this wedding on friday x

I wouldn't mention the staining prior to it's clean though. if they had cleaned it, but still left the stains in, you'd still be without a dress, whereas I presume you would like them to replace or refund you.

Right just collected the dress, it does look a bit better, i didnt pay they didnt ask! From a distance it looks ok, but even my hubby had notice it looks different, so it must do. Still looks like crepe paper up close, have tried it on a well its a bit tight now around the bust :o . Have contacted monsoon awaiting their reply. I'm not going to wear it as i know it doesnt look like it did and would annoy me, now i have to find a outfit first thing before the wedding at 12.30  And bride & groom will have to get a smaller donation for their honeymoon, feel guilty but we are quite poor at the moment.

Thanks for all of your advice x

Might be worth trying a charity shop! You can get some amazing dresses for £5!!! Some of them look like they've only been worn once!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I had a similar problem with a suit jacket at the dry cleaners where they freely admitted it was their fault as one of the machines had had a 'blow-back (!)' apparently and they asked me to find a replacement and they would re-imburse me for it. The jacket was very much as you describe the dress when it came back.

OP it looks like the dry cleaner concerned so much on removing the stains they did take into account that they would damage the fabric.

I've had Monsoon dresses and skirts with stains in them which I've taken to the dry cleaners. They always warn me the stains won't come out but never ruin the item in the process. This meant either the stains where removed or they faded.

I suggest you contact consumer direct to see what action you are allowed to take against the dry cleaners.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    Hi K8te,

Did you have any luck with Monsoon, I had the same problem, took my blue & white silk dress to Johnsons and after them cleaning twice all the dye ran, they sent off for a "technical report" and advised the dress was faulty, I've now had to send the dress back to Monsoon and await a response, was gutted as same here I was planning on wearing the very expensive dress to a wedding!! Had to run round trying to find something else! Although did complain to Johnsons and said I wasn't happy paying £14 for them to ruin it, especially when they didn't even mention to my husband that the dress was ruined when he collected it! They did refund the £14.

    Thanks Emma
