How was it paid to them? Dont you have any more information? Its not a lottery scam is it?0

You might also want to look at a thread by bookduck, "mum keep sending money to mail fraudsters-any ideas" (I notice your other post seems to be saying he doesn't want to talk about it)
It's possible he has been put on what is called a "suckers list",and will be targeted through mail by lots of companies.Good luck.0 -

I have contacted the Fraud department of my father's bank. They have swindled him of £2K! Did you report them because the theft will get worse!0 -
This is def a scam company. I have just discovered my Mother has spent £7000 over the last 2 years on her credit card. She is 78 and a bit bewildered. Contact the CC immediately and speak to their fraud dept. I got £2500 back on the last 4 months bills and interest credited. Contact the police and get a crime report. Transfer the phone line to yours and get rid of them as they get abusive. They have sold her details on a suckers list and she gets 10 to 12 calls a day, many 0900 numbers which one cost her £50. Then on top of all that you get the mailings, send money to claim your prize etc etc.0

Can an 0900 number cost £50?0

In answer to the other links about the above company.
I am 60 years old, I have never paid for anything like this before over the phone, I cannot tell you how silly and angry i feel with myself.
I recently had a phone (08/07/09) call from a man stating he was from the Irish Lottery, he offered a deal for £7.00 for a month saying he would send my numbers by post and the next time he spoke to me he hoped it would be to tell me I had won.
Well I have had no letter with numbers or anything, the £7.00 went out of my bank today, I have checked out the site and came up with this one, so I thought I would lt you all know.
Oh I have phoned my bank and they are looking into it for me. I hope this helps someone not to be as silly as i was, it might only be £7.00 this time but what next??
Regards

Me too. "ELG" stands for European Lottery Guild. Though initially sceptical (since I have never won a single penny on The National Lottery, despite sporadic periods of foolish hope, including a whole year of Direct Debit subscription!), I decided to give it a punt. They claim you have much better odds this way.
I paid up for one month earlier this year (by visa over the phone to an operator in Canada) and a few days later, received a load of bumf in the post, detailing everything about the Irish lottery and my membership details and syndicate entry no.s. It also offered the option to enter (I think it was) the Spanish and French lotteries too. I won about 60p(!) which I left on account. Since then, I have received occasional calls exhorting me to buy into more draws and more stuff in the post listing my winnings(sic) and so on.
As far as I can make out, ELG seems to be legit, but need to be kept at arms length to avoid the usual dangers of gambling and 'pester-power'.0 -
A complaint against them was upheld by the ASA in 2006:

The New Zealand Ministry of Consumer Affairs appears to have issued a warning about them:

You are better off just buying more tickets for UK Lotto and Euro Millions, where you can buy them direct and not through an agent at an inflated price.0 -

we have just discovered that my 90 year old father in law(in UK) was somehow sold a ticket to a so called Australian Lottery - he gave out his bank details. Over the next few weeks he received numerous lottery tickets from allover the world! He suddenley discovered that he was overdrawn - thankfully his son looked in to it and found that amounts of money varying from 9 - 99 pounds had been removed from his bank account - leaving him with bank charges and debts.
How can this be - he didn't give them permission to take more money from him - at least he doesn't believe so. These people are the lowest of the low preying on elderly vunerable people who should be able to enjoy the few bob they have managed to save.0
