Laptop not allowing me to post on MSE

My ancient, but perfectly usable laptop has picked up a strange habit when I try to reply to other peoples posts on MSE, and I haven't got a clue why. (I'm currently posting from work, or via remote desktop to my desktop machine which is hidden away in a dark corner in a bedroom somewhere)

I'm not sure how long it's been going on, but when I hit respond (or reply or whatever it is) I get the regular web page allowing me to type my response, but when I try to submit it the site is coming back with an error, stating that my response must be more than x number of characters and presents me with any empty form having kindly lost my entire post?? (I can't add any smilies either)

The only software that I have installed (fairly) recently was AVG 8, but I can't see how that could have caused this??

I do work in IT so am pretty technical, I'm just not too hot when it comes to PC problems :o

Which browser are you using? If IE, try downloading firefox, see if you can post with that. If FF, try using IE, see if the problem remains.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker
Go to User CP > Edit Options then scroll down to Miscellaneous Options and from the dropdown box select Basic or Standard Editor and that will allow you to post.

It seems that there's something about the WYSIWYG editor and the way it has been scripted that makes it incompatible with a certain combo which in my case was on a Win2k box and IE6.
