Absolutely without doubt. You're lucky you haven't seized it.
I hate to think how DANGEROUS the brakes were.
It's nice to know that you can categorically state that the vehicle's engine has been damaged without inspecting it. :rolleyes:
As for the brakes, you have absolutely no evidence to suggest that the brakes weren't functioning perfectly well.
Where in the OP's post does it mention what sort of mileage the car has covered? Where does it say that no parts have been replaced?
Ok, it hasn't been serviced for a while, which is not exactly ideal. But there's far, far worse out there. :rolleyes:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Edit: On a different note - some (alot actually) dealers (manufacturers) are not changing the gear oils on cars as often as they used to.
Many gearboxes these days are sealed for life - the oil never needs changing.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -

MOT - doesn't mean that there is enough oil in the engine etc. Means that it is safe/ok at that moment in time that it goes on the road. doesn't mean that it is not going to break down. Such false economy.

They have changed the schedules, ok less spent on some services - but not healthy for the gearbox. In defence of the dealer (I work at one!), the VAG group have added a gearbox oil change to their 40k or 4th year service, so every vehicle will get a g/box oil change (if taken to a dealer of course!) every 4years, max...just thought it worth a mentionGenie

Old oil doesn't lubricate and cool the moving parts properly so they prematurely wear. The fact they still stop you is irrelevent. They may take far longer to stop you and the pads/discs could be worn to nearly the point of failure.
Oh this old wives tale that it's OK because the mileage is low? Are you aware that if you do low mileage, a car should be on an "abnormal use" service where engine oil changes are INCREASED for example? Also brake calipers seize up through lack of use, corrosion builds up on brake discs, rubber bearings perish.
