No service for 4 years!

During the past year, i've usually got around 300-310 miles from 40 litre's (on a 1.2 16v Sxi Corsa). To me that seemed about right?
Hopefully, my fuel efficiency will improve now!
yes, always remember insurance as its easy online & they send a renewal, but did forget my MOT once by 4 days! lucky i didn't crash during those 4 days!0 -
The fuel economy does sound about right, but should still get better! Hope you've learned a lesson now, and the car gets a bit more attention each year
in theory you should check tyre pressures/oil/water every month and especially if you are doing a big run somewhere.
Something else to check with Vauxhall is most cars change the cambelt at 6years, a BIG deal if not done! The garage that serviced it the other day should have picked up that:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -
I doubt the coolant was empty. More likely the coolant reservoir was empty (if it has one). You'd have noticed if there was no coolant, since the engine would have died already.0

so i have a confession to make...
i realised that i hadn't had my car serviced for 4 years & 4 months.
i thought it had been 2 years!
Just got it serviced yesterday.. the coolant/water was empty, the air filter was full of bits, and the oil filter was bent and jammed full of oil.
will i have caused damage to the engine?
Absolutely without doubt. You're lucky you haven't seized it.
I hate to think how DANGEROUS the brakes were.0 -

People like you should be banned from owning a vehicle.0 -
i will check to see if i'm losing oil on a regular basis. The temperature gauge never showed the temp being high, so i'm hoping the coolant had only just ran out.0

How did it pass the MOT :rolleyes:0

Lordy..........
I admit that I don't clean and hoover my car that often, time etc being against me ... but never ever skip a service. I like to know that my car is in good nick... Even when i got mine in January, and it had been serviced, a few weeks back before my hols (going abroad and not using it), made the guys give it a 'mini' service so that I knew it was ok, and where I had bought it from had really serviced it! i don't trust anyone...
Four years... blimey - I find that ridiculous. Is OP winding us up?Genie

Some people have no interest in getting their cars serviced (if it ain't broke don't fix it approach) so I'll bet there are cars on the road that haven't seen an oil change in many years more. There was a thread on here a while back with someone convinced they need not service their car and so long as it had an MOT it was fine.
At least OP recognised the error of their way and has got it serviced.0 -

I guess we should be grateful that the OP 'got there in the end' - but I really find it scary...
I really need to know that the car I'm driving is one hundred per cent ok. For my sake - and I should say - for other road users too, - but if I am honest, i need my car safe and reliable for me!
MOT - doesn't mean that there is enough oil in the engine etc. Means that it is safe/ok at that moment in time that it goes on the road. doesn't mean that it is not going to break down. Such false economy.
Edit: On a different note - some (alot actually) dealers (manufacturers) are not changing the gear oils on cars as often as they used to. They have changed the schedules, ok less spent on some services - but not healthy for the gearbox. Had alot of vehicles in lately and the gear oil has been like, er, black tar.... just thought it worth a mention.Genie
