I get it from Costco. 25kg salt for avround £5
  • I finally found my cheapest local supplier who delivers. For info for anyone else looking for cheap salt in Essex and Herts, http://www.watersoft.net/index.php?page=salt&stage=1&type=tablet can deliver 15*10 kg bags for £50. From the info posted above, I'm hoping that will be a year's supply. The website says delivery within 15 days; I ordered it Tuesday evening and it was delivered on Wednesday afternoon!

For those that have water softeners do you still need to filter water for drinking?

I'm looking at installing a watersoftener, and also one of those dedicated filter taps that filter drinking water on the fly. But im not sure if I need both.

    Thanks

That's a lot. Our 4 bed 2 bath house with washing machine almost every day, kids baths, showers etc we only use about a 25kg bag every two months. Our softener is one that only regenerates when a measured amount of water has been through rather than every night.

do you still need to filter water for drinking?

You don't filter the drinking water from the softened supply, you tap off and use the normal incoming main for cooking/drinking. Apparently salt level is too high in the softened stuff for babies but I drink it from the bathroom taps and brush my teeth with it. Can't say I can taste the difference other than it's "soft".

I buy about half a dozen bags a year from the local garden centre.

Does anyone here have a Kinetico Watersoftener?

It takes two large blocks of salt rather that a bag of granules. If so how often do you have to replace the blocks?

    thanks
