I just wanted to say thanks for all the help and advice on this forum across a huge range of subjects since I have been a member.
I won't be posting any longer. Having spent all our money on the house I no longer need any investment advice. If prices go up I don't care as I will not ever be STR again. If they go down more I don't want to know!
Sadly the housing forums are not a fun place any longer. I haven't posted much anyway in the last month or two, but do read posts from time to time. I even agree with Mr Broderick (finally!), that people on both sides of the argument are being unpleasant these days.
Good luck to everyone on here, especially the long-term members (too many names to list, but you know who you are). I hope everyone gets what they want.

Sorry to see you going. I admit that so much space on this forum is taken up by nasty sniping. Although I am a housing bear I am always ready to consider the other persons side although I still can`t be convinced to change my thinking.
In a lot of parts of the country you need to be a high earner to afford much more than a shoe box. Where I live, and we are just below the ``average`` price a couple would jointly need to earn a little short of £50k a year for a 3 bed terrace house. 10 years ago £15k jointly would have done the job.
Anyway, all the best.0 -
If my views put me on the nasty side then so be it.
I just put the telly on and Homes Under The Hammer was on.... couple bought their house for £120,000 in 2002...... and fancy agent comes along telling them to put it on the market for £420,000.
Well done on spending all your money. Last thing I'd do is put all my liquidity in to property. BYE. CYA.0 -
It is when the posts become abusive and personal that makes me feel sad. I am about to put people on my ignore list, I would much rather they were put on the keep off MSE list!0

Best wishes merlin. I have also considered departing (for similar reasons) and spending more time on other forums but this one is so addictive. It seems that this forum is just an annex of HPC these days. Filled with so many experts who know nowt (that's ex as in former and spurt as in...)
I doubt either of us would be missed for long.

Awww Merlin... I always loved the name.
Obviously you've not read the contract properly. There's a section that states that any life decision which is based on postings made in these forums, where any member current or past had any input whatsoever that drew you in any way towards or away from any decision, including the one you've made .... obligates you to return at least once per week for the next 60 months to keep us updated on things.
I wish you well in your new home.
Feel free to pop back and hand out invites to your house warming BarBQ. I could buy a pop up tent!
All the best.

Thanks - I might do that. If you are ever in Norfolk you would be very welcome.
Can't even post a thank you without someone sniping at the decision to buy a house! Just backs up the decision to go. Money isn't everything - some people on here need to get things into perspective.0 -

Hmm.Good luck, and I respect your decision to "leave", but I don't see the point with the decision as it's just an internet forum. You come and go as you please. You don't have to read every post, and there are other forums besides the House Price one.

I've read Mr Broderick's first post on his problem member and clicked on the "back" button and never opened it since. It's so easy to ignore threads that doesn't apply to you.

Goodbye, Merlin, hope everything goes well with the move and your new home is somewhere that will give you many years of happy memories.
Before you go - the name Merlin the happy pig - Blackadder, by any chance?0
