Just recently all HTML files on my computer (pages I'm designing, pages I save from the web etc), have adopted a dos command box icon, they correctly open in IE or Firefox, and the association is correct, but the icon wrong. How can I fix this?

Try
Hold down Shift and Right Click on one of the files
Look for Open With and select Choose Program
Scroll through the list and select Internet Explorer, tick the box that says always use this program and click ok.0 -
As he uses firefox, shouldn't he select that?0

Yep
Sorry, select whatever browser your use, he mentioned both in his original post so I just guessed it.

Yes that was my first port of all before my post, hence, "they correctly open in IE or Firefox, and the association is correct", but the icon is still wrong, does't seem matter whether they are associated with firefox or IE, icon still incorrect!
So any other ideas?
PS She, not a He... clue is in the name... :rolleyes:0 -
It's a rather old article, but it probably still applies:

Thanks fwor, but the file shelliconcache doesn't exist on my XP Pro system Windows directorydespite the article's info.
Might need to play with the registry...0 -
That article's for Windows NT, its similar for XP, but they moved it.
C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Iconcache.dbDelete that and it should be fixed.0 -
Ok.
Create a shortcut for a html page. Um if you don't have one, on here just go to File, Save Page As. and save it as whatever.
Find the html page, should be in My Documents or whatever.
Then do this:
you could right click icon, press Properties and under the Shortcut tab there is Change Icon, you can then change it back to the E thing or whatever you want.0 -
Wouldn't you have to do that for every single file?0
