SCART Leads

So i take it these gold plated scarts dont need to be that expensive?Its just my parents just purchased top of the range plasma and was told by comet that they needed these gold plated scarts which cost i think around £70 for the two, the installer of the tv said that comet is ripping people off by saying they need these scarts and for everyone the sell they make money on.
They guy said you dont need them and the ones that came with tv or ones she had are just as good and that they should take these gold ones back,i was shocked to hear they paid as much for them and are thinking of returning them.
Would it be wise to keep or return these leads whats so specail about them compared to other leads or other gold plated ones.
